Hey yall~
I saw something about this on the USNA thread and started wondering about it. Do the cadets get to somewhat pick their sponsor families? (The USNA thread shows a type of advertisement for a family in Annapolis, and was looking for future mids who would like them as a sponsor family.) I had always assumed that they were assigned to us. Thanks for any info!

Your host sponsor during Beast at the half-way point "Ice Cream Social" (old name, not sure they even call it that anymore) will not necessarily be your sponsor for the academic year. Sometimes coaches or officers connected to a team will request and host members of a team, sometimes faculty request cadets from their home state, some just take pot luck and enjoy the mix.

Cadets sometimes tag along with a roommate to the roommate's sponsor and end up staying with that family through graduation. Others link up with an instructor and are invited.

The important thing for the cadet to do is always RSVP when invited...nothing worse than preparing a ton of food only to have one or two cadets show up. If you end up going with a roommate and getting "adopted" by someone who was not your original sponsor, let the original sponsor know. They don't mind...it happens all the time. And....thank you notes are always a great idea (parents, small note cards are a nice thing to take up for A Day).
