Sport and Entertainment Management Community

Hi there

Can someone please tell what dorm the Sport and Entertainment Management Community lives in. Also what dorms would be close to someone majoring in sports management.

Thanks in advance

Bates West for 2012-2013.

Thank you…isnt Bates West apartments? Do you think this is a good living situation for a freshman out of state trying to meet people?

thanks in advance

I don’t think an apartment-style dorm is necessarily the best at promoting entire-floor mingling, but really it depends on the kid.

I don’t know how many freshmen wind up in the apartment-style dorms, to me this would be a bigger concern. I wouldn’t want my kid in an apartment where everyone else was an upper-classman.

Maybe one of the students who post here will pop in with better info, I am just a parent.

They don’t, as far as I know, put freshmen in with upper classmen (know one kid who ended up in apt with older students but it was because of bad situation later in year and they needed to move him wherever there was open space). I know you can not request an upperclassman roommate as a freshman. Bates West is apartment style and traditionally freshmen were put in hall style dorms but increased number of freshmen means that they put them in lots of different dorms. The benefit of living/learning communities is that many times they do special things/events to bring everyone together. The engineering community may also be there (think it was last year) and it makes sense because this dorm is on the further edge of campus, but is near engineering and the sports complex and new sports administration buildings.

Edit: General Ed classes will have you all over campus, but starting next year I heard they are increasing the amount of time between classes and will have 8:30 as earliest start time.

Thanks for all the advice. Like the idea living/learning community idea but would prefer to live in traditional dorm or suites if I get into capstone or honors. Also money is an issue for me and I believe the apartments are more expensive

The Capstone dorm is pretty nice. I couldn’t believe how big the rooms are.

sports administration program is still housed in the Coliseum building (old arena) it is not located near the sports complexes.be advised that while Bates might be a place to meet some other SPTE majors, you will at most take one or two SPTE classes in your first semesters, sp proximity to the locations of your other classes and the ability to meet the most amount of other entering freshmen might help you make a housing choice. Also,I think there’s nicer housing choices for freshmen…

I have a 4.2 GPA and 30 ACT score so I think I can get into Capstone but not honors. So my first choice is capstone. What traditional dorms would you recommend for a male majoring in sports management? I know this has been discussed previously but just a list would be greatly appreciated because I might have to select housing without seeing it. Size and it being clean are high on my list because I will have a lot of stuff and I will not know my roommate

thanks in advance
