im sorry everyone if this sounds retarded...

I have ALOT of intense sports going...

Swimming is INTENSE (18 hours a week).

and so is Basketball (10 hours).

HOWEVER because of the sheer physical weariness that i feel, i have problems at school.

My current GPA unweighted i a 3.67 (and 90% average with 9 aps through out the 4 years of HS)... HOWEVER im quite confident that if i had taken no sports and done something "nerdy" like

chess club or seomthing like social service etc (less physically tiring) i would have done better in tests etc.

IM sure many of u athletes out there know what im talking about. Coming back hom at like 7 pm after a crazy anaerobic lactic acid endurance session etc. Ur brain just doesn't function !

Do colleges understand that and give dedicated athletes some extra credit?

Dude i feel you i play three varsity sports ( football, baseball, basketball ) its hard maintaining grades with a varsity sport...i dont care what anyone on this form says with all their 2300 sats.... i think a varsity sport is one of the best ecs you can have and colleges know that... lol and dont worry a 3.67 gpa isnt bad at all... unless you're considering ivies

From my experience, collleges take into account the amount of involvement in ECs, not just the amount of ECs. I believe most schools will ask you for the approximate hours you spend on ECs. They understand that certain ECs are very time-consuming and those ECs look better than something you attended 1 one-hour meeting per month as a part of.

a lot of admissions people will say they are looking for a dedication to something. obviously if you spend a lot of time at something and if you succeed at something it shows dedication...doesn't really matter to colleges whether you are dedicated to community service, sports, or whatever else. it would help you though, if you were a captain of one of those things. any way you show leadership is good.

i see i see

So then would there ever be somone being TOO dedicated?

not trying o brag or anything...
but i have dedicated myself to more than 3 things...

(as in more than 10 hours a week)

would this ever be seen as simply being way to ambitious?

the way you could be "too" dedicated would be if your grades slipped b/c of your sports. also i guess if some colleges wanted more variety in ECs, you could be hurt. but i think at the vast majority of places, you will be fine with ECs, and a small slip in grades will be made up for by your sports.

and i dunno if anybody else hears this, but i think if i didn't play sports as much as i did my grades would fall. i have to have something to take my mind off schools. actually there have been plenty of studies that show athletes having higher GPAs than other students...we are forced to prioritize and manage time well.

yea i understand that.

but i am looking towards the Ivys and im just wonderin if a
3.67 (90% average ) is not good enough.
WOuld you call tha ta drop? (9 aps in 4 years)

Varsity swimming captain (12 horus a week)
JV basketball captain (8 hours a week)
Senate duties (WAY TOO MUCH)
so on so forth...sigh

[I HATE ALL THIS CRAP: as in apps etc (excuse the language)]

the GPA might hurt you a little but everything else is great
