My main sports is golf. I am already at a varsity level.
My concern is that I want to participate in more sports.
I am planning to play soccer and ice hockey.

I am okay at soccer, but ice hockey is one that I want to start.
At Choate, Andover, and Hotchkiss website, I found out that joining the JV or Varsity ice hockey team is not a easy task to do.
Do I need a head start to play ice hockey at BS?

Hotchkiss has a beautiful and challenging nine hole course (think it was designed by Tillinghast).

If you haven’t been skating since say, 5th grade or so, you have no chance of playing varsity hockey at any of these schools. With hard work you could contribute to the 3rds team. Just the hard facts – these guys are not screwing around when it comes to hockey.

As you probably know, sports at these top prep schools are extremely competitive, soccer and ice hockey at Choate included. There is a thirds soccer team, but this year we cut about 6 kids off of it, so you need to be at a pretty high level to play thirds. We don’t even have a thirds ice hockey team and Varsity is exclusive of all except recruits. My prefect, who is a senior, was only on JV and he said that the year previous to this, there was even a PG on JV (a little ludicrous if you ask me)…

We do have intramural sports though and some sports aren’t quite so competitive. My advice would be to follow your plans to play ice hockey and soccer and see where it takes you. :)
