I will apply for University of Pennsylvania in the future and I am interested in joining University of Pennsylvania's varsity swimming team or just basically recreational club. I however, do not think I'm qualified for being in the team, since team members are mostly top swimmers in the world/nation. I have won some local swimming merits and competition awards, but I do not know whether those awards will add much to my application.

Even if you aren't getting recruited, I imagine sports still add somewhat to your applications in the same way that other extracurricular activities would.

I read in A is for Admission that football, basketball and hockey are the most important sports to schools because they bring in money by selling more tickets than any other sport. With that in mind if i really show my love for hockey as well as reffing hockey (Ive been playing travel hockey since i was 5and the state supervisior of refs told me that I coudl be an NHL ref soon) would that significantly help my chances at the University of Pennsylvania. Im a full IB diploma candidate, top 1% in the county of 6000 kids, 1420/2090 SAT (applying ED to wharton).
