My son is a swimmer but he's not a super jock. Still he's wondering if he'll be the only athlete around. What's the sports scene like at Vassar?

It seems like the number of athletes at Vassar has been increasing over the years. We know several athletes that play two sports. So your son will feel very comfortable at Vassar. There is not a huge foot stadium with thousands of fans but every sporting event we have attended has a group of loyal fans and supporters cheering them on. The sports friends attend the music, theater and arts productions and the arts friends attend the sporting events and then of course some do both sports and arts. That is the great thing about Vassar. Also I have to add that the Vassar swim team is a great group of people and I hear there are many new freshman recruits so it definitely is a growing program.

One of my best friends is entering his sophomore year at Vassar as a quite serious member of the swim team. I’ve visited him several times and hung out with the fellow swim team crew. They’re all great people and they all really love it there. Solid community–for instance, when I was there the whole swim team was having a blast in an intramural soccer tournament. None of them are jocks, but they are definitely athletes. I’m not entirely sure what the ‘scene’ is, at least in terms of how the student body as a whole is involved, but from what I’ve observed it seems like a great place to be a swimmer.

This is really great to know. He’s looking for a close-knit team.
