Sports Bars?

I have yet to find a good sports bar in the Morningside Heights vicinity. I'd love to go somewhere nearby that has the MLB package so I can stay current on the NL East Standings without having to go downtown.

Any suggestions?

cannon’ssssssssssssssssss!!!
technically it’s now called o’connell’s, but that’s the campus sports bar (and if you refer to it as anything other than cannon’s the upperclassmen will look down on you). i really don’t think anywhere by campus has the mlb package, but trust me you’re really not gonna have time to watch a 3 hour baseball game every night and still be successful at columbia. watch the gamecast on your laptop while you study.

Thanks, metsfan. Is that the place near the 125th Street 1 station?

nah, cannon’s is probably around 108th street and bway. most people generally tend to go down around 108th too 114th for bars, 125th is much more harlem much less columbia. there is a liquor store up around 125th (not sure how close it is to the 1) that’ll sell to toddlers so maybe that’s what you’d heard about, thought the easiest way to get alcohol w/o an i.d. is just the 109th street deli on 109th and amsterdam.

^yeah this is correct. liquor store is 125th just east of bway. Alcohol there is dirt cheap but they i.d. a good fake will definitely fly at this place. 109 deli (call it “crackdel” or upperclassmen will look down on you) is the place to be if you want cheap beer. They can deliver 40s to your dorm - pretty much the cheapest and easiest way to get drunk on your own alcohol, especially good if you are throwing a party and running out of alcohol but don’t want to spend much.

Remember to hide alcohol in a back-pack if you are in a freshman dorm (freshman dorms are dry) and obviously don’t get caught :).

For the record, Pour House also has the sports bar vibe…not quite as fratty as cannons but give it awhile…

if you’re over 21 rite aid’s cheaper than crackdel, but DO NOT go there if you’re under 21, even with a fake id. trust me.

mlb.tv!!!

… that must have changed recently. I don’t know of anyone who’s had problems with rite aid.

my freshmen year (just graduated) one of my friends ended up getting in criminal trouble from using a fake i.d. at rite aid.
