Sports Management Help.

I am interested in becoming part of a marketing staff for a sports franchise, or hopefully one day be a general manager for a team. but anyway I want to work for a sports franchise.
What major should i focus on? Marketing, Sports Management, finance?
And what schools are the top schools to go to in terms of connections, alumni, career services to help get a job in this sort of career quick?(Within 5 years after graduation)

I know no school can secure me a job, but what schools get you the most ready, and such for this career?
Ive heard Bowling Green State university, Ohio University, UMASS, UO,..etc.

I applied to BGSU and OU, adn have gotten into BGSU already and waiting on OU.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

help!!!

my only advice for you is to not major in something with “sports” in its name, just because you want to go into sports management. The major leads to a dead end 99% of the time.

I think Syracuse and/or UMich is good for Sports Management. A friend of mine is really serious about applying for that, and I know he applied to both of those.

Agreed with with Seahawks. General consensus is that Sports Management is a great degree to seek. Not necessarily because it’s a bad major, but because there’s a small market for the degree and you may be limiting yourself to a small number of jobs.

You’re better off going with something like finance, marketing, or business management, as they’ll give you more opportunities- both inside the sports world and outside of it. Getting involved with a sports franchise is much more about knowing the right people and snagging an internship, not about having a “sports management” degree.

Can’t really help with your other questions though. Good luck.
