Sports Management Program

Is anyone on CC in the program at Umass? or have gotten accepted to the program? If so, I would like to know the "stats" I need to get into the program. I know it is one of the best if not the best Sports Management Programs in the country. So if anyone, even if your not in the program, knows anything about the program and admissions I would appreciate it if you can give your insight. Thanks Alot.

I'm in the sport management program at UMass. I actually was a sophomore transfer into the program last fall. I transferred into the program with a 3.54 gpa from another Massachusetts state college. When I applied for freshman fall admission in 2006, I was rejected from the university (Not just the sport management major) with a 3.3 uw and 500's on each section on the SATs. The university and the sport management program is really becoming more and more competitive every year. Even if you don't get accepted into the program but are accepted into the university, you can apply again during your college career as long as you have a B average in microeconomics, math, intro to sport management, etc. Make sure you also have some sport industry experience too before you apply as that will help a lot in the admissions.

The sport management program is very fun and challenging and the faculty is excellent! All of the faculty are always willing to go out of their way to help you with any problems whether it be homework help or finding internships. We have an amazing sport management alumni network here as well. I know that the GM of the Pittsburgh Pirates and assistant GM of the Cleveland Indians are both UMass sport management alumns. They really push us students to get as much industry experience as we can and to network with everyone we meet.

To answer your question about what kind of "stats" you need, I'm not sure about what kind of stats the students of this year's incoming fall class have. I know though that from last year's incoming fall class that many of the students I talked to had at least an 1800 on their SATs and most of them were invited into Commonwealth College (Our Honor's Program). The university is getting more and more competitive every year to gain admission as more people want to come here. If you apply and don't get into the program at first, don't worry. Just apply to be in the major at a later date and do good in the predictor courses.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask and good luck with admissions!

I was waitlisted with a 3.3 and 1800. I know people with slightly better stats who were rejected. It's extremely competitive.
