Hi all, my son is a hs junior interested in the sport management major at UMASS. I would appreciate any information/advice about the major from parents and students. Thanks so much in advance!
My son is going to be applying to the sports management program this semester (as a UMass undeclared freshman). The reasons I think its a top school for sports management are 1) second oldest program in the US (Ohio University being number one) so lots of alumni 2) housed in a business school not a kinesiology program (not that that is bad but not something that my son needs for what he wants to do) 3) good internship programs 4) top rated professors in the field 5) 2 good sports management clubs. I’m sure I’ll think of others.
He got picked last minute to go to a networking program at a Celtics game last semester and got to sit on the floor next to Wyc (the co-owner). Talk about a networking opportunity! The best program in our state was probably at Cortland and in my opinion it didn’t really compare. Whenever you Google best sports management programs in the US, Umass is usually on the list and near the top. He wants to be a sports agent and its one of the best schools for that.
The program is highly selective so presenting a strong GPA with good SAT’s are important to be admitted directly into the program. Plus if you have some type of sports angle it would help (not necessary to be an athlete). They also state they look for leadership qualities so through the essay and EC’s if you could demonstrate that it’s helpful.
