Sports management..?

I am a junior in high school and REALLY want to go to Arizona state. I am strongly affiliated with sports, and can't see myself just being removed from them.
However, ASU does not have a sports management or athletic administration major available.
So i was wondering, is there ANY way possible to enter the sports industry (sports marketing, coaching, athletic director, agent, etc.) with a BBA or MBA in business administration, management, or marketing from ASU?

My dream career would be something sports-related, so any of those jobs would be great.

Thank you.

Of course you can. Sometimes those “specialty” majors aren’t that great. Having a broader degree is an asset.

Okay. Which major(s) would i be able to take in order to become a coach, athletic director, agent, etc. at Arizona state? or any school for that matter?

Ummmm… why do you think that working in the sports field requires a specific area of study? It doesn’t. Succeed at anything that matures your reasoning and communication.

are you saying that sports management and athletic administration are worthless degrees or…?

Yes. You get these jobs by having front office connections, not some degree.

even as a sports agent or athletic director?

I’ll admit I’m not the person to ask about becoming an AD. But look, sports management is an incredibly hard industry to break into- takes far more than a niche degree, and chances are you’ll be really dissapointed with career prospects. It’s all about knowing the right people. Most people are disillusioned by the Scott Borases and Drew Rosenhauses of the world, but it just doesn’t work out that way.

I’m an amateur sportswriter and I’ve gotten the chance to get to know a lot of fellow writers, college grads who majored in sports management and ran into a dead end.

^ most agents are lawyers.

Thank you so much for finally opening my eyes about the major. So would a MBA in marketing, admin., or management do me any good? Oh and i plan on working in California so would job oppurtunities and salary be any kind of issue with a business degree??

^^ yes tellch00, most sports agents have extensive law backgrounds and many have their J.D.

Someone I used to know was involved in the starting of this website: [Sports Agent Blog - Sports Business, Sports Law, Sports Negotiations, NCAA Rules](http://www.sportsagentblog.com/)

Again, I’m not the authority on sports management careers but undergrad-wise, you’re best off choosing a broader law/management related major.

Thanks man. Also, do you know anything about marketing at all? Is an MBA in that any good?
