I'm sorry if this is the wrong section to post this, but after looking through the forums this seemed like the proper place.

Anyway, I'm here because I was wondering if anyone could help me with getting into Sports Management specifically becoming an agent. I understand that jobs like this are not for everyone and it is very hard to be successful especially during times like these but I am a very determined person and I believe I possess the skills to succeed.

But I could really use some help on things like good schools, and just any other tips that anyone could give me to get started in a career like this. I don't graduate high school until next year so I still have some time to do some research. I will admit I haven't really looked into anything until recently but I have been thinking about a job like this for quite some time.

All replies are appreciated.

Unless you have connections, don’t count on becoming an agent.

Yes, I know it is 80% luck just to get into it and if everything doesn’t fall into place it won’t happen. I have read plenty of stories about agents and how they got into it by coincidence. Honestly, I would be happy with any job that fell into the “sports management” category but especially this one.

You are better off working as a sales associate for a ball club if you are dead set on working in sports. Getting a sports management degree will do you no good. If you are willing to suffice by working outside of sports for a few years, do that. Build up some career experience and then apply for open management positions within the sports industry.

In short, the long-term route will be more lucrative but outside the sports industry for a few years, while the short-term route will put you right in sports but will be “bare bones” living for several years.
