izzy - IT SO DOES! lol

haha yes we are considered a cult, but that’s only because no other athletes can relate.
“others” just don’t quite get it ;-)

okay, mayb i will try out for crew then

no i haven’t. im just going to wait for april apply next year…

though that proves you’re davedrake

I’m thinking about doing crew but I don’t know if I’d be strong enough, also the early mornings scare me :p

don’t worry about early mornings! Those are mostly in college. I have morning practice once a week, but it is SO nice not to practice that afternoon (unless we seriously messed up in the morning, in which case we would need some drills PM). Anyway, only V rowers have morning practices at most schools! You could ask around.

And being strong? Don’t worry about it! You’ll gain muscle/endurance as you go… everybody does. I would suggest doing some light weight training/ learning how to erg before hand… also, you could not work out in the winter, but I STRONGLY recommend that you do And by this I just mean go to the gym a few times a week - nothing serious - but you do want a relatively low resting heart rate going into the season. (For those of you who dont know - and this relates to ALL sports - a low resting heart rate is good to have. The more you workout, the higher your heart rate goes, the lower it rests. You want to have the room for your heart rate to spike… Think of it this way. If you rest at 30 and your max heart rate is 50, then you can only push up 20 bpm. If you rest at 10 and your heart rate is 50, then you can push up 40 bpm.) - obviously I know that you won’t be doing much at 10 bpm… its just an example!

frosty, I tried crew at Exeter summer school. I must not have been very good because I was the first one to get kicked off the boat when there weren’t enough spots for two boats. (It’s just because I kept getting my oar stuck in the water. I know how not to do that now!) Also, I don’t think I could ever be reliable at carrying the boat, even with like 12 other people.

That’s really too bad musisat - and very strange. I would expect coaches to understand that everyone needs time in the boat (and this was at summer school!!). And please don’t fret… do try again if you liked it! Getting your oar stuck in the water is a “crab”, but unless you guys were racing, i see no reason to stop you from rowing. With carrying the boat… you’ll be fine! You get stronger, and carrying the boat gets easier :)

Anyway… do remember that with most programs and most sports there will be cuts… but still, it’s worth going out for!

The early morning stuff still exist at Exeter for Crew and Swimming… >.<

Nah, I don’t care that much. I’m just exaggerating.
