Yes. Intramural sports are very popular.

I like how Emory does not have one because football teams do not add to the academic environment of an university. In fact, football teams (usually DI) are often contrary to academics. In many cases, DI football players are poor students who take easy classes, receive special treatment, and generally do not take academics seriously. Yet they are lauded by the student body, giving students pitifully non-academic role-models. And if you don't think that's a real conflict with academics, just go to Ohio State and see how many students use a considerable amount of their time/resources praising and idolizing Troy Smith.

School spirit derived from football is frivolous and stupid, as harmful to rational thought as is developing an interest in rap music.

Let's face it, in the end, spending a Saturday afternoon in the Fall by cheering for a football team is simply not as academically productive as time spent studying is.

It's true. We at Emory firmly believe that school spirit is stupid, that Saturday afternoons are meant for studying, and that rap music is harmful to rational thought.

We also have no school spirit to label it as such, play nothing but rap music at parties, and spend Saturday afternoons watching football on TV because we don't have our own team to watch in real life.

We also hate stereotypes, and we hate college sports fans because they all idolize their favorite atheletes and they don't study enough. But man do we hate stereotypes!
