I’m deciding whether to continue playing lacrosse this year (current junior), and my big question is whether I need it to get into a good college (first choice right now is Georgetown - I want to study political science)
Sports-
I played freshman and JV volleyball in 9th and 10th grades, and did not play this year.
I played JV lacrosse for two years, was a captain last year, and will be on varsity this year if I play. I’m considering it for exercise/teamwork, etc. but I just don’t love it and it’s a hugely stressful time commitment.
Other ECs -
I’m also a competitive debater (since 9th grade) which takes up a lot of my time. I mentor middle school debaters every week, but I won’t be able to if I play lacrosse. I’m in French NHS, I have a summer job (working with kids the last two summers, working with debaters this summer). I also have volunteered at science camp for 1 full week (~100 hours) each year.
Are these strong/diverse enough ECs for me not to play lacrosse? I like lacrosse games and I’m kind of dreading practice. Playing lacrosse is 12h/week, which will take away time from debate and debate mentoring, as well as school.
So, any advice? Do I need lacrosse to get into a good college, or is a strong commitment to debate and working in the summer enough?
