sports

if i was on a lot of basketball teams in high school, should i include them. for example: cyo basketball team, aau basketball team… or even any camps i did for basketball. will that demonstrate dedication, even if im not good enough in basketball to get recruited or a scholarship.

Sports are a very good EC. Even if you are not planning on playing in college or applying as an athlete, sports are good EC's. Being the captain of a team is usually flagged in a special way since it shows leadership.

Other activities that are sometimes flagged are editors of newspapers/yearbooks, student govt presidents, and members of debate clubs.

I don't see how "members of debate clubs" fit in with those other activities you listed. Do you happen to be in a debate club? :-)

No, I'm an old guy and was never in debate club. I would put it below the others too, but I've seen it mentioned. I think it might be interpreted as a known quantity. Put it in the same category as attending Boys State. (never been there)
