Basing it solely on my GPA, i have a 3.4 at SUNY Binghamton and am currently under consideration for spring transfer admission as a sophomore. I did very bad in calc (D) last spring which plummeted my GPA. Not including Calc into my GPA, I have a 3.6, and I got a 3.7 this fall. Does Notre Dame take this into account? Basically what are my chances with everything else considered average for a prospective notre dame transfer? Any insight from anyone would be greatly appreciated as I'm incredibly anxious to hear a decision from them.

P.S. Has anyone ever been called by the admissions department? Is this a good sign or a bad sign?

Admissions does call sometimes to give acceptances when time is of the essence, so it may be a very very good thing. Call them back ASAP. My acceptance was actually via a phone call.

If they called you that makes me be a bit more positive than usual, but normally I would say that it is still a reach because spring is usually harder to transfer in for than fall if you are not at SMC/HC and your GPA is a little on the low side given that. That being said, I think you definitely have a shot, especially if you have a good essay (it makes all the difference in the world at ND) and if not, if you can get up to a 3.5 cumulative after another semester, I think you should have a shot at getting in next fall if you have the right classes.

So, long story short, I think it is a reach unfortunately, but it could happen. Admissions calling you is usually not a bad sign at all!
