so is it unlikely to get bumped up to fall like how it is with the waitlists at the other schools?

i just got accepted for spring!! usc is my dream school and really want to go but im nervous starting in the spring!

i got in for spring too ! omg…its liek good and bad…i can save alot of money by taking some general ed classes at a community college until jan comes around

but then im kinda nervous to start in spring…i hear its hard to integrate aftter every1 is aleady settled and stuff

what about taking classes at a state university, I got a bunch of scholarship offers from Mizzou and I’m in-state, would that even work?

I’m almost positive I’m going to go. Just nervous about housing, meeting people, not being able to rush, and football games!

And like 7 people I know last year were spring admits and they got bumped to fall…

I’m a spring admit to marshall business admin too!

^dude, so do you think we might have a chance of going in fall?

I’m not sure if I want to go…I mean spring…not exactly what i had planned lol.

do you guys think i should choose UC davis bio or USC bio? davis is ranked higher in their bio department while usc is higher nationally…don’t know which is better…and usc is spring, which is making my parents more in favor of davis.

I think those who go in spring should meet up and become their own group of friends =)

^For sure, somebody start a facebook group.

And post the link here!

My real hope is that because SPPD is so small, that the effect of one person not enrolling in the fall is larger than say, CLAS.
Thus, if I’m lucky, I’ll have a good chance of getting bumped up to the fall!
So glad I got in though! (:

P.S. I haven’t seen what you can RSVP for as a Fall Admit, but is this Sunday April 26th Freshmen event for Spring only?
Because the description makes it seem like any other freshmen generic event:

On Campus Admitted Student Reception
For those admitted students wishing to visit USC on a weekend, we will be holding an on-campus open house on Sunday, April 26th.

I am sure that this has been written here, but if you have not done so appeal, appeal, appeal. Write to them, tell them that USC is your #1 choice (if it is) and you would definitely accept if admitted in the fall, etc, etc. Of course, I am assuming that you are being truthful here :D. USC does not formally have a waitlist, but this is what they use the Spring Admit list as. Last year some people with ridiculously good stats/achievement were put on the spring admit list, only to be bumped up later. Search last year’s threads and attempt to contact the people who got bumped for advice.

The thing is that I don’t think spring admits appealing to be placed into fall is going to work. The reason one is admitted into the spring semester is because there’s no room in the fall, in the departments and/or in housing. Once USC knows what the yield is going to be, then they will know how many spots open up. It’s at that time that students get bumped to fall. Either you are lucky or not. They may also give preference to those students who are in programs where a sequence of courses must be started at a certain point after GEs are completed …eg Production in SCA and other fields. I suspect there are no spring admits in Architecture but if there are, I’d think they would also get first dibs.

When my son went through this last year, he was told that Architecture students would be most likely to get moved up to Fall because of the program sequence issues. There was another similar program mentioned but I can’t remember what it was. S was admitted to SCA for Critical Studies, and the admissions people he spoke to gave him no reason to hope for a bump to Fall - SCA kids do lots of GEs before getting into their major, so the sequence wasn’t an issue. He was also told there is no such thing as an appeal of a Spring admission.

But he did set out on a lobbying campaign! He accepted the Spring offer right away, and then wrote letters to people in SCA and USC admissions. He told them he really wanted to do Thematic Option, which would be very difficult as a springer. He reminded them of his test scores and NMF award (which the adcoms didn’t seem to have noticed, at least one person on the phone expressed shock that it didn’t just jump right off the file jacket). He told them he was extremely honored to have been admitted, but was keen to get started earlier. He visited the school.

We’ll never know whether he got moved up to Fall randomly, or because he expressed enthusiasm and a set of specific reasons he should be moved. He’s just really glad it happened.

sleepwelldarling, you are an ADMITTED student!!! You are in no way a “second class” admit, and you are DEFINITELY eligible for any admitted student reception! GO!!! Don’t be shy! Congratulations!

I might write a letter expressing my interest in being a fall admt. I’m pretty sure it won’t do anything and I’ll still end up coming during the spring, but I might as well try.

Thanks alamemom!
I obviously can’t personally RSVP for any other event, but I’m tagging along with my Fall Admit friends to Preview day on April 14th!
I guess I’m curious as to what’s going to happen in the Department Specific portion of the schedule that day, especially 'cause of SPPD! I doubt being a “guest” will matter anyway.

Got rejected from my last four schools! USC here I come! (:

P.S. Committing, but still hoping I get bumped up (:

I don’t understand why people think spring enrollment is such a bad thing.

I mean, c’mon. You got accepted into a great university, plus they give you some extra time to grow up, for goodness’ sake. You go experience things, travel, help out, try something new, and then show up at an awesome school a more worldly person.

And even if it does feel second rate to be shoved into spring enrollment, swallow some pride, man. Grow some sack and appreciate an opportunity when you see one.

Iamben, Well said brother
