'Spring 2010 Grades Requested' - Plan on Going Somewhere Else?

Hi Everyone! I'm brand new here and I'm hoping to get some kind of advice, I've been researching online without finding any answers. Anything you could tell me would be of awesome assistance!

Alittle background information, I'm in my last semester of Community (Raritan Valley, which apparently is supposed to have a good rep), I'm a lifelong resident of NJ, and I'll be finishing up my associate's degree over the summer. I'm 19 and majoring in International Business. I'm an excellent English and Social Science Student, and I'm not the best at it but I enjoy learning French. My downfall, however, is Math.

I applied, along with a good portion of my friend's, to Rutgers New Brunswick. I really didn't have any interest in Newark or Camden, due to a pretty crummy family situation and general boredom, I'm dying to leave the nest. I have a 3.2 overall GPA - my best friend has a slightly lower GPA (3.15) and takes easier classes, for the most part. Most of my classes have been in accounting, finance, etc., while his have been more English and Communications. He got accepted, admitted, no problem.

However, I struggled with math, and I had to retake a few classes after failing them. Because I retook them, and they were development courses, my GPA wasn't penalized. I retook all failed classes and passed them. However, Rutgers apparently wasn't cool with this. Instead of getting my nice, fat info packet, I got a thin letter saying "Spring 2010 Grades Requested".

Has anyone been in this situation before? Did you get in? Should I waste my time applying to Stockton? Is this the same as being waitlisted, are my chances better or worse? This semester I'm taking Microeconomics and Ethics, both of which I'm confident will be B+ or better, World Civ II which I'm expecting a B or better, and French II which I'm not too great at and will be a C+, maybe a B. I dropped from my Precalc class because my teacher wasn't really helpful but I'm taking it over the summer with a much better teacher. Rutgers is my dream school, so if they accepted me, it'd be an automatic enrollment on my part.

Sorry to keep rambling on, but I'd love some advice. Thanks in advance!

first of all, DO NOT apply to stockton. i am transferring to RU from there and it was the worst experience of my life, but i wont go into details unless you want me to.

secondly, the situation you are in is difficult. im not sure if its better or worse than being waitlisted, you might have to contact RU admissions for that. however, i would take it as a good sign that they are asking for your spring grades and not flat out rejecting you. If your gpa is higher than the grades you sent, then i would say you have a good chance. then again, its up to you if you want to play the waiting game.

i could understand your situation better if i knew your HS stats and how many credits you have.

Thanks for the reply, sorry to keep you waiting. I’m suprised you say that about Stockton, I was out last Saturday and some random girl overheard me talking about Stockton and went on for about an hour about how much she LOVED going there. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. Details would be nice, I’m always willing to take anyone’s advice into consideration.

I would assume it’s being better then waitlisted because they’re waiting for you, not the other way around. My overall GPA is a 3.17 and My GPA for this semester will probably be between a 3.0 and a 3.5. I have 45 credits total at the moment, I’ll be at 57 after this semester and 69 after the summer to finish my associate’s degree. I finished highschool with a 3.7 GPA and was ranked #10 in my class, but, I didn’t go to a particularly good HS so that number is alittle inflated.

well my stockton experience was horrible. the girl that was talking to you was probably the type of person i am about to describe.

if you’re serious about your education, DONT go here because almost every single person here does not give two craps about their grades or classes, and i do not exaggerate when i say that. the people here are friendly but are absolute dopes. they are the most unambitious and cocky group of people i have ever met in my life. so, if you have a brain you’ll feel like the smartest person in the world but at the same time will be depressed that you go to such a lowly school. there are parties here and there but ONLY during the week as EVERYBODY goes home on the weekend simply because theres “nothing to do”. the campus is COMpletely deserted on the weekends, and I do not exagerrate when I say deserted. the fact that the campus is located in the middle of nowhere doesn’t help (although it is 20 minutes away from atlantic city. but there’s not much to do there anyway, so either way you’re screwed.)

the classes are absolute jokes, so theres a good reason why the students here dont seem to give a **** about anything. maybe it was just the intro classes i took, but i basically slept through some of the classes I took here and got A’s in them.

honestly, i have no idea how stockton has garnered any prestige at all, because i guarantee you that you would get a better education at a community college (while saving money). which, i should have done to begin with.

i STRONGLY advise that you do not attend Stockton. please do not be misled by their statistics that they post on college board that says they have a 50% acceptance rate, because it certainly does not feel like it.

ill be willing to answer any questions you might have

Hey, I’m pretty much in the same boat, circumstances are barely different. Were you accepted? Details please! Thank you!
