Spring 2018 Transfer Applicants: Automated phone system vs. Online portal status checks

Hey guys, I’m new here.
I’m just finishing my first semester at a SUNY community college. I’ve applied to transfer to John Jay, Baruch, Hunter, and Brooklyn; in order of preference. I really only want to go to John Jay for forensics and security. I would consider Baruch and Hunter, but I don’t know if they’d be right for me.

The online portal says:
“An admissions decision has been made by the college(s) listed on your application. You will receive notification from only one college choice shortly”… you know, just to torture me.
It changed to this about a week ago, and I’ve heard nothing. Rumor has it that I’ll be contacted within 2 weeks.

But yesterday I decided to call the automated phone line for checking your application status. I don’t see the number on the website, but it’s on the second page of the application summary packet I received. 212-997-CUNY
Once it knew my identity, the robot said this (paraphrased):
“An admissions decision has been made by the following college.
You will receive notification from the following college choice within the next two weeks. You will only receive a decision from the following college. John Jay College. To repeat these options…”
That means I got into John Jay, right?? It kept saying “the following college”, but didn’t list a college till the end. It only said John Jay. I don’t want to celebrate till I know for sure… If anyone else in my situation tries the number, can you let me know if it gives you what college you’ll be hearing from?

On another note, I see people posting their grades and stuff… I applied to the CUNY system as a freshman for this semester, but made plans to go to a private school that then had to change due to financial difficulties. I included the Fall 2017 app info in case any freshman applicants want to see.

Applying as a freshman, Fall 2017:
-3.24 GPA
-Old SAT 580 reading 550 math
-No essay
I got into Queens, Brooklyn, Lehman, John Jay, CCNY; and was rejected by Hunter.

Transfer, Spring 2018:
-3.5 - 4.0 GPA, depending on upcoming grades
-16 credits in English, math, communications, and Arabic
-One “W” grade from an art class
-Also submitted HS transcript and SAT scores
Applied to John Jay, Baruch, Hunter, and Brooklyn.

@idonthavefish yes. I just got into Baruch. When I called the automated phone it told me I will receive decision from only one college which is “Baruch college.” So you most likely got in as well! Good luck!

@Russianhacker Congratulations!!
I think/hope it means I got in. Thanks for your input! Have a wonderful spring at Baruch.

Hunter College is my first choice and the automated telephone system states the same thing. Im considering on giving admissions a call. Will let you know once I am aware of their decision.

@sourpumpkin Okay, thanks, I’m gonna try calling John Jay, though I’m pretty sure their admissions line is answered by a machine 24/7. Good luck with Hunter-- I hope this means we got in.

@idonthavefish John Jay is my first choice too and I haven’t heard anything. I am so nervous.

@Russianhacker Congratulation!!
But what is automated phone system? The CUNY Welcome Center? :((

I mean my CUNY Portal message changes but I am not sure that is accepted or not =((

@MarchRabbit75 Call 212-997-CUNY, they (an automated robot voice) asks you some questions and then asks for your student ID or SSN. I don’t think people who aren’t already in the CUNY system have student IDs? Dunno, doesn’t really matter.

The automated phone robot tells you the name of the college that’ll be contacting you at the very end of it’s speech on the status of you app. It refers to “the following college” and then gives a name of a college, but only after repeating the info on the online portal in more words than necessary. Longest 15 seconds of my life. It’s very suspenseful.

From what I’ve read, people are saying that if the college stated in the call is your first choice, then you were accepted. But, disclaimer, just cause I haven’t read anything contradicting that doesn’t mean it’s 100% right…

Good luck!!

@idonthavefish Thank you so much!! I just call and decision made it. The college will be contacting me within 2 weeks later.
I am really hope what you said is true. I mean you are not sure but the college I applied is the first choice.

I contacted Hunter College office of admissions directly today and the lady that answered was not able to give me additional information. She said that the next batch of emails will be sent out the first week of November.

@idonthavefish im international so I dont have a SS do I use my application number?

I spoke to a lady and she just said I’ll receive an email in two weeks. Im too nervous

YES!! I GOT EMAIL!!
now i can at least little bit relax lol

@MarchRabbit75 Congrats!! Where are you going?

@MarchRabbit75 Congratulations!!! Do you have to take the CUNY assessment test(CAT)?

@DanDan210 Thank you and Queens!

@sourpumpkin Thank you! and you mean i need to take a CAT?

@MarchRabbit75 I read from other forums, that some transfer students had to take the CUNY assesment test and I was just wondering if they wanted you to take one.

Got an email from John Jay saying I’ve been accepted. Thank you God I can relax now

@MarchRabbit75 @DanDan210 Congratulations!!! I also got my acceptance email from John Jay today. I’m so relived.
