Going on an annual senior-only trip through my school to New Orleans for community service and relaxation. If I get a chance I also want to visit Tulane since I was recently accepted. haha

We’re going to Costa Rica!:-)

S1 is taking his entrance admission exam for the State Police, then he is spending the week hand shoveling the manure in the barn. I am spending it doing tax returns. Do we win Worst Spring Break award?

Bet he studies hard for that exam! :)

My daughter came home to the Cleveland, Ohio, area for first-year spring break. Her second year, she spent half of the spring break in Anchorage Alaska visiting a friend and half back here at home. This third year she is staying in her little studio apartment (in an off campus dorm, UT in Austin Texas) to go to the free concerts that are part of the South by Southwest festival. She’s excited.

I asked Freshman son if he was coming home for spring break and he said “Of course!” like he was worried I didn’t want him or something. He is 4 years younger than his nearest sibling and I am well used to kids possibly not coming home…no big deal. He definitely wants to come home!

He has a couple of volunteer ops lined up locally. He needs 30 hours a year for his scholarship, and he has not paid much attention to the passing of time…

Other college son got to go to Boston with us to visit grandma, since it was his spring break at the time…possibly his last cheap vacation opportunity if he gets a job upon graduation! ;)

Yes syrstress, you win “worst spring break” award!

We have to do taxes too.

My senior D is studying for her EIT (Engineer in Training) comprehensive exam. She needs to pass it to start her job after graduation. For relaxation, she is training for a Half Ironman with her college Triathalon team.

I’m on need-based aid, paying for an expensive liberal arts school on my own but I’m still headed to Panama City Beach. Even we need a break from working 25 hours a week and keeping good grades. Trust me, I’ve budgeted enough to know that I can afford this and still pay rent and all my other bills next month.

The problem is when parents pay for all of their kid’s spring break, or even part of it. I wonder how many on here do that?

I wonder how many realize that these pricey spring breaks will mean much longer that they will have to be repaying expensive loans instead of other needs down the road? Folks can have breaks that don’t cost anything (or very little). Staycations are becoming increasingly popular in our state, with so many affected by the poor economy for so long.

Paying your bills next month isn’t the same as knowing you will be able to graduate with a manageable amount of debt that you will be able to repay in say 5 years or so, so you will be able to focus on other aspects of your life, including saving for a family, retirement, housing, etc.

Himom, you are posting! Glad you are safe, but you probably did not get much sleep!

No, sleeping in a car, with rain coming in the windows is not a good idea for restful repose. No one has reported injuries & most of the HI damage seems confined to boats, harbors, piers and water damage so far.

Update:
D is back at school safe and sound from Mexico. Mom can resume breathing.

HImom, glad you’re safe - hope your home wasn’t damaged as well.

My D is staying at school studying. She has two mid-terms on the Monday following spring break. All four of her suite-mates left and she is thrilled to have the suite to herself.

HImom: glad to hear you weathered the threat. I love your idea of the staycation, but have to say it’s just not as appealing where I am!

I’m with midwstmom. A staycation in Hawaii sounds lovely (with a tsunami is not a a part of the picture, of course.) A staycation on the shores of the Missouri River in March, not so much.

My older brother is home working for the week. In the past he has been to Ft. Lauderdale with his fraternity.

Had both of my college students at home, back to back weeks.
Very happy about that as probably neither one will be home this summer. :)

Freshman son was home, bored for a week. Senior son is off this week and is either in Lake Havasu City or SOCAL? He often doesn’t share plans ahead of time, but I’m sure I’ll see something posted on FB soon.

I just saw that NPR is looking for students who are choosing to stay home over spring break so as to keep their carbon footprint small. Huh? Do those people exist?

One is staying at school and working, the other is headed to Dominican Republic with his frat brothers.
