Spring Break Destinations?

S1 did indeed post his plans on FB. SoCal it is. He is planning to attend [Beyond Wonderland 2011](http://www.beyondwonderland.com/SOCAL/news.php).

{{sign}} This is the first time I have wished to be back in college. Looks like such a good time.

Past two spring breaks sister decided to volunteer rebuilding houses in NOLA. Summer internships allow her to party hard on the weekends so she sees no need to waste money on a plane fee to places that are littered with drunk college students. She doesn’t understand the point of walking on a beach for a week. But last week and a half of winter break she went to the Philippines to get her traveling abroad bug fixed.

We went as a family on a cruise to the Western Caribbean. We were lucky in that both girls (D1 is a senior at a Boston college and D2 is a freshman at a Vermont college) had the same spring break. D2 is going with 3 other girls to a friends time share at a Cancun resort when school gets out…makes me nervous but she has traveled extensively (as have the 3 girls she is going with) and we have talked with her a lot about being safe while she is there.

D1 and her friends just arrived in Cancun also. They are staying at an all inclusive hotel, so no getting off the property. According to D1, the resort is beautiful and the beach is great, wish I was there. We will see her next Thu for few days when is on her way back to school. D1 is the only one with a Mexico phone plan, so her friends are using her phone as the main contact with families back home.

Know a kid that went down to Mexico and got his head handed to him…literally- Got his face on a soccer ball and everything at senior frog’s

Lake Havasu…absolutely no Mexico allowed.

Houston! I have basically the month of March off and I’ve been here with friends/family. The weather is gorgeous, shopping is par, and lots to see and do. I think when I start college next year, I’ll make this my spring break tradition.

D1 just left Cancun to come home for a visit. It sounded like the girls had a very good time. According to her, there wasn´t too much partying. They never left the resort.

D2 left for florida the day before it started snowing here, and will be coming back after the snow is gone. Pretty good timing, I would say.

My son noticed some students who receive huge financial aid package, drive a new Lexus, spend $200+ on a meal…

^^But does their package include loans? They sound like people who don’t know how to save money for college or anything else. Spend now, pay for it later.

Don’t envy them.

Well, my son actually graduated last year from Indiana University at Bloomington with his business degree, but he took his girlfriend (who is finishing this year at Indiana University at South Bend with an accounting major) to the new Aria hotel in Las Vegas for a week. They also took in the Beatles Love show at the Mirage and went clubbing on both Thursday and Friday night.

Speaking of expenses, he is now short of money (since his work only pays so-so and he picked up his girlfriend’s plane flight as well as the rest of the vacation cost), but he does have a second interview with Google later this week for a job that will pay quite well if he gets it.

Does that mean Bank of Mom & Dad will float a loan with specified repayment terms for this generous Spring Break? Good luck with the Google interview–glad to hear they may be hiring again–they stopped for a while during the down economy.

Just curious as to how these things get worked out as I never asked my folks to help fund any of my breaks/vacations; I have bought each kid one round-trip plane ticket between LA & the East Coast for ONE spring break and that’s all they’ve asked. They earn their own spending money.

My D stayed on her campus and a friend came to visit from Boston–to thaw out. I told D she could come home IF she finished her incompletes first. She enjoyed her week in LA instead. I guess she will wait until the last minute, as usual. <sigh> </sigh>

Our children are their own people and have to have their own experiences. Repeat, repeat, repeat. I will allow kiddo to have own life. Repeat, repeat, repeat.

S has been with us from August through this past week. He just took off to spend a month in Thailand, using his own savings. He will be getting clothing tailored and spend some time exploring. He has a friend doing research there. I’m happy for him! It’s one of his major adventures before he starts his full-time job this summer. The next adventure will be figuring out how to get his stuff & body to the east coast & what to do about his car–drive, lend, sell ship. ;)
