Spring Break

What do the majority of AU freshmen do for spring break? What are your student’s plans for spring break?

First year my son came home to go to a wedding; second year he and friends took a road trip to Atlanta and New Orleans to visit homes of some friends;this year he will be working in DC at his internship…he wants to work full time over vacation to see what it is like.

Thanks boysx3. What has your son done during the summer breaks?

Alternative breaks are also really popular at AU - to places like Dominican Republic and Hondouras, etc. This year, my D is lucky enough to get an all expenses paid trip to Russia with the Theatre Dept. but last year she came home and slept for a week.

If you can’t afford an “alternative spring break” (very costly) or a more typical spring break jaunt to a vacation spot–and we can afford neither, and D’s friends are in the same boat–the time can lay heavy on the students’ hands. Even reconnecting with high school friends can be difficult, since they often have different weeks off. This year my plan is to urge my D started working on a GRE prep book–at this point, I think algebra and geometry are about as familiar to her as Swahili, and it’s never too soon to get back on track. Sleeping will also be a major activity, and hopefully she’ll pick up some cash doing a little babysitting.

mpegmom: Wow! How did your D score an all-expense paid trip? That’s fantastic!

MommaJ: I agree, the alternative spring breaks are very expensive. We may take a family vacation but just in case this doesn’t work out I was wondering how many students remain in the dorms.

^ Just happened to be cast in a play that happens to be going to Russia. The theatre dept does “exchanges” with European Universities quite often.

I don’t know if many kids stay in the dorms over Spring break. It could get pretty lonely. Maybe your child can go home with a friend? That’s what my D did for Thanksgiving.

megpmom, how lucky of your D! My D is going home with a friend for Thanksgiving too. I guess she might have to find another friend to take her in over Spring break.
