Spring Break Questions

Hi all,
I was wondering: What is spring break like? How much does it cost, whats a good destination (Cancun, etc) and how have your experiences been? I hear about it all the time so im really curious. What is it like, exactly? And is it possible to not spend thousands of dollars for a legitimate good experience?

For me, spring break is really a time to relax and catch up on all my course work. I’m on SB right now and my professors assigned all kinds of homework/projects to be completed when we get back, so I couldn’t go anywhere even if I tried.

However, some of my friends at other schools are on break next week, and they’re looking for places to go. We live in MI and they want to go go somewhere warm, and they said they could find cheap hotel rooms in Alabama. Driving takes a while but is cheapish, and I don’t think it will cost more than a few hundred per person if you plan right. Looking the week before you go is risky but might also be cheap since people want to get their rooms booked.

What is spring break like?
Spring break varies widely on what you’re doing on spring break. Some students choose to travel whether it be to another town, state, coast, or country. Some students choose to stay in town and relax. Some students choose to study and get ahead in their course work. Some choose to go home. It’s however you want to spend your spring break.

How much does it cost?
This again depends on what you’re doing. Sometimes 5 days cruises may cost only $500. You could fly out on a package and go to Cancún, Puerto Vallarta, etc. for $1200. Personally, my spring break is only going to cost about $350.

And is it possible to not spend thousands of dollars for a legitimate good experience?
It is totally possible not to spend thousands of dollars! Rather than flying down from Michigan to Mexico, opt to go to a lake in Nevada or a closer state. Your spring break doesn’t have to be on the beach, a lake, or whatever. It’s wherever you’ll hang loose and have fun.

It’s pretty easy for me since I live in Florida, but if I wasn’t going to an event for spring break the most I’d have to pay for a good time would be enough to cover my food costs for the time there. It can be that inexpensive.

Last year I did Alternate Spring Break with my school where myself and nineteen other students drove down to Florida to volunteer with various organizations. It was a blast and I only spent about $230 for housing, food, and tourist items.

This year, I’ll be going to Houston for a geology thing, and then probably hanging out around Texas and New Orleans with some friends. Shouldn’t cost more than a few hundred dollars for the trip.

Yeah, most schools have ASB. Mine goes to a bunch of places around the country. I’m going home to play video video games with my friends. Paradise.
