Spring Musicals

This is the month where most high schools tend to put on their spring show. I just thought we could all share our experiences and some happy accomplishments!

My school did Kiss Me, Kate! this weekend. We actually have our last show tomorrow because our friday night show was cancelled dut to snow. I'm a featured dancer and having a great time. Three schools in the area are doing kmk this year and we are the only one's who are doing all 10+ minuted of "too darn hot" so we are quite proud of ourselves. I can't believe it's my last school show!

My daughter's school did Beauty and the Beast in February and she was Belle. Most of the schools in our area finish up their musicals by the middle of March as our city has a Tony type awards program for the high schools that have applied to participate and that is the deadline for judging. There are roughly 35 to 40 high schools that participate each year. We have four high schools in our district and they always seem to do their shows the same weekends so the kids don't get a chance to go and see their friends. Sorry to hear that your Friday night show was snowed out, that must have been disappointing.

this year is a year of two for my school, every year we do a dinner theatre, and every other year we do a spring show.

so this fall, we did You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown and i was Lucy
in two weeks, we're doing Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and i am a narrator, (the director split the narrator into four parts.)

this year might actually end up being a triple for my school. myself and my close friend who is an amazing tenor decided that we wanted to try to learn/produce/stage a show on our own, so we just requested to buy the rights for Songs For A New World. if all goes well, we hope that gets shown at the end of May, and i would be woman 2.

oooooh. I love this topic! Good one during the waiting game too. I don't have kids of my own still in high school. Lots of kids I am working with are in the midst of their school spring shows, though. My college kid is currently rehearsing Jesus Christ Superstar. My other college kid just worked on the sets for Merrily We Roll Along. Our HS here is doing Lucky Stiff.

I hope you guys all break a leg in your shows. I think the final senior "events" are so special (moms and dads get teary eyed, watch out) and all the "lasts" are pretty special. This may be a stressful time with admissions but I hope you are enjoying the final semester of high school. Fun memories to be made!

Buddha....our local HS has some kids who staged their own production of Songs for New World this winter. I know you guys can do it. Go for it. My daughter was the first person ever in our high school to attempt student run musicals which she produced/directed/created. She did that her last two years of high school, though she created her own musical theater revue shows. It is very gratifying to see the tradition she initiated be carried out this year by the next crop of MT kids in the school.

My school is doing West Side Story, which I am not in. I was cast as one of the Jet girls but decided not to do it. It is not a school show, but I am in a community theatre producion of Oklahoma! Rogers and Hammerstein is always fun!

yeah. we're REALLY excited about it. we've already casted the four parts and started learning some of the music. i'm just terrified that it won't get a good audience since usually, you can pack a house with parents and family of a bigger show, but since there's only four of us....AAAND we're following Joseph which might be a tough act to follow.

Our production is Sondheim's Sunday in the Park with George and my darling D is Dot/Marie!

Buddha....do a LOT of publicity.....local paper, posters all around town, school newsletter, local radio...posters all over school. It need not pack a full house like Joseph would as long as you have an appreciative audience and you will if you publicize it well. Tell all your friends and family. Enjoy!

we're doing Beauty and the Beast; kasl is our belle:-D

There are so many talented teens represented on these forums. Wow!

We're doing Bye Bye Birdie. First two shows this past weekend, really great. Friday show cancelled due to snow. Two more shows next weekend to look forward to!

Daughter's high school musical was two weekends ago. They did Crazy for You. She was Polly. I cried as she sang Someone to Watch Over Me. Thankfully, I know myself well and brought lots of tissues!

My son's high school will be doing Uninetown the first 2 weekends in May. He is the stage manager.

we're doing a new musical called MallMart with Curious Theatre in Denver

S is Barnaby in "Hello Dolly" at the local University. Because of scheduling and auditions he opted not to try for Beauty and the Beast at the community theatre

We are doing The Sound of Music, I'm max :D

My S's school did West Side Story as their mainstage show last month.

Check out the pics!

It is the BEST thing when young adults get to do this!! And it's so great when the community is supportive. One of my close friends, is 17, and he just finished producing and directing CATS this past January. It had a cast of nearly 50 people, about 1/4 of whom were adults. He is the most amazing person....he now has his own theatre company, and has directed Grease, and Little Women, as well as other shows in addition to CATS.
and the community is so supportive of him which i think is incredible. he'll be a famous director someday i think, because he is already so awesome!

ps: soozie i dont know if u ever listen to VPR...but Nina Kek (im not sure her last name) came and did an interview of him and some cast members, and that was really cool!!

I'm not in school, but the next show im doing is in the summer: Hello Dolly!
and I'm playing Minnie Fay. and im in a singing group that my voice teacher runs, and we always do a broadway cabaret in the spring. this year we're doing one of those medleys from the lion king, but we're changing it around, and making a lot of the pieces longer. the best part is...im doing all the choreography for the lion king, as well as creating all the costumes.....it's such a great experience!

randc those pics are wonderful!! which one is your son?!

wow...and i JUST notcied you guys did CATS too!! awesome!!
