Spring Recruiting

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about spring recruiting for ivy-league sports? My dream school is one of the ivies, and I've talked with the coach multiple times and met with him- while I was not offered an official visit, each time that I've talked with him he has suggested that spring recruiting would be a better option for me, since I told him that my times always improve greatly at my winter meets (I'm a swimmer). He told me that he likes to leave a few spots open for spring- and I was wondering what this meant. Is this a likely letter? Can likely letters be sent out for RD, or are they only for ED? And more about my times- they would place 16th at the ivy league championships, and he told me that he wanted swimmers that would place top 16. So I'm right at the verge of being 'recruitable' to him.

I know little about Ivy League recruiting, but I do know this:

From what you have described, you have not received a likely letter. A likely letter is an actual, physical letter, and anything other than that is not one. Also, a likely letter is sent by the admissions office, not by a coach. Likely letters can be sent out for RD; my daughter received one, but it was based on her academics, not her athletics.

This is not a Likely Letter or any kind of coach support at this time. The coach is saying that IF your times improve and IF he has any slots left, he may or may not support your application with admissions. You need to cast a wider net and frankly, if you haven’t done this already, you are very late to the party!

To answer your question, yes, Likely Letters can be given for RD. As far as your times go, your recruitability will depend on the team’s depth for your particular events and who the coach was able to secure in the ED round. You academic stats will play into this also.

I didnt mean to say that I thought I had received a likely letter or anything like that, I just wanted to know if those spots that he left open would receive likely letters. I am still looking at other schools, but focusing on this school because it is my dream school. Thanks for the replies!
