spring transfer essay

So I'm reapplying for spring semester. Now I got accepted for fall but couldn't attend, and now that im reapplying, the essay topic is the same. I'm calling Cornell in the morning to ask a few questions, but I thought asking 'should I submit the same essay or revamp it' would seem kind of dumb.

So..I'm asking here, haha. Would you guys advise me to revamp the essay that got me in for fall, maybe add and tweak a few things or should I submit it as is?

And I'm going to check with them anyway, but does anyone know if financial aid forms are the same? They should be, because it's still the '09-'10 school year, right?

hey man i would definitely encourage you to revamp your essay. the adcom will have everything on file from your previous app, so really show them that you want in by writing a killer new essay. that would be my advice (that’s what I have done all the times I have applied)… now i just need to get in!

i send my common app in around Sep 1, and Sup around Sep 3. when do you anticipate we’ll know, wateradept? i would be down to swap essays, also.

Thanks, calp, I’m considering just calling her on Monday (which I was supposed to do multiple times this week, never did) and asking some questions, slipping in something about ‘updating’ the supplement. I can definitely revamp what I’ve got, and include my experience with having been accepted and what it felt like to not be able to go because of the financial roadblock.

Haha, how many times have you applied?

And yeah, I’m sending my common app in early next week, along with whatever form of the essay I end up with. I’m guessing since we won’t have midterm grades to give them until mid-October, that at earliest we’d find out around the 2nd week of November. I believe Cathy said we’ll definitely know before Thanksgiving (but that’s too long so I hope sooner!) That is if you’re applying to CALS. ILR sometimes finds out sooner.

And sure! When I finish mine, I’ll def. swap with ya.

I’m sending in my application probably monday. I’d be down for this swapper-roo

Wateradept, i’m just curious. What were your stats that you got accepted with(gpa,credits,school/major applied to, any other info)? And why couldn’t you attend in the fall?

I couldn’t attend because my parents couldn’t afford the family contribution, so they said I just had to wait one more semester, which i am, ha.

3.3 GPA, CALS for Communications, 33 credits from last year (49 when you include this semester), but I know for a fact that the passion and ‘fit’ based information put into my essay is what got me accepted. That’s what they look for most of all: they want to see that you fit at Cornell, that you have high interest in attending there in particular, not just because ‘it’s a good school that has my major’.

But I’m sure all of you want to be at Cornell in particular and nowhere else, right? ;)

hey Wateradapt,
you are absoultely correct. Cornell mostly looks for students in their FIT for college and its specific school. nio matter what the gpa is or how good the E.C. is… it all comes down to personality and academic fit to Cornell. HOLLER!
