Hi, I plan to attend FSU this spring and I have a few questions regarding housing and meal plans.

Since I will be arriving in the spring I assume that most of the "good" dorms will be taken and I will end up in something like Smith or Deviney. What are the chances I will be able to get a room on the east side of campus? Also is it possible that there will be no rooms available on campus?

-Most of the meal plans say they require a 2 semester commitment. Does this still apply for a spring transfer? Also do you recommend getting a meal plan even if you are in a dorm that does not require one?

There’s very few rooms on campus that open for Spring. It’s limited to the number of people that either drop out, or graduate. You’re basically going to get whatever is open if anything is open.
Yes, it’s very possible that there won’t be any rooms available if your application is delayed, or you don’t apply for spring housing close to the opening of the application (which, unfortunately, you can’t apply for Housing until after you are accepted).

The 2 semester commitment is for Fall/Spring- if you get a meal plan in the Fall, you have to get one in the Spring. If you get a meal plan in the spring you aren’t obligated to get one for another semester.

And if you aren’t required to get a meal plan, DON’T. I really can’t stress that enough. The meal plans are seriously overpriced. The ability to use them at restaurants on campus is nice, until you realize that the $6-7 you’re allowed to substitute a meal for gets you basically one selection at each restaurant (and arguably not very good selections)… You’re better off just saving the $ for a meal plan and buying meals and stuff as you want them.
