Any experience with dorms for spring admit freshmen?

Hi -- I'm a parent of a new FSU freshman admitted for the spring semester. (He applied for the fall, was turned down, but offered spring admission which he happily accepted. He was a split number -- very good ACT (31) but rather poor GPA (3.25-- corrected) so he was thrilled to get into a school like FSU, even if it means bussing tables for a semester!).

He just applied for campus housing with a priority number of 0094. Does anybody have any experience with whether this is a promising number for the spring semester? I know that if it was a fall priority number, he'd be set, but I have no point of reference for the spring. We don't know if we need to be searching for off campus housing at this point or not.

Thanks in advance for any and all advice!

Congratulations on his being accepted to Florida State!

I think his chances of an on-campus dorm room are good based on the priority number even if it is for Spring semester.

Last year, my freshman daughter had a roommate move off campus by Christmas, and two students on her floor did not return after Christmas break. Then there are students who leave to study abroad.

I think the chances are good. AND, with freshman enrollment cutbacks, the private dorms on the outskirts of the university have rooms for rent. And many apartment complexes will have discounts as they are NOT full. I think you can want to sign any contract until you see if you hear about an on campus dorm.

Congrats!

Thank you Sunny and Parent. I am encouraged then-- I was worried that we’d have to make numerous trips up to Tallahassee (we’re in Orlando) in order to arrange lodging if he doesn’t get into the dorms. Sounds as if there are plenty of off-campus options, then?

This is my oldest child and I’m beginning to feel as if I’ve done everything wrong so far! I wish I had discovered the forums a year ago (my daughters will certainly benefit).

Thanks again,

He’ll get a room. A lot of freshman leave their housing contract after the fall semester for various reasons.
