I installed the file-sharing program Ares on my computer about six months ago (which I now know installs tons of spyware), and now the slow speed of internet explorer/many pop-ups are getting unbearable. I have used Ad-Aware and Spy-bot to no avail, so what should I do? Help would be greatly appreciated.

try using mozilla firefox instead of IE. It won't kill your spyware, but I'm guessing that if you do not run IE you won't have any popups.

oh yeah, definetely start using firefox. you can't uninstall IE, since it's neccesary for tons of programs on windows, but not using will really lower your risk of viruses. i've had similar issues with my pc, so i've also installed tons of norton antivirsus protection. it scans basically everything that tries to gain access to my computer. when i do a full system scan the spyware is always found but i can't seem to get rid of it either. just go with firefox and you'll be fine.

download.com -> and download "spyware-search and destroy"-its free and it helps

No, he has it. It's "spyboy-search&destroy".

Well, first, why don't you get rid of your p2p program if it's causing your computer damage?

Make sure both of your ad/spyware programs are up to date constantly.

And I also rec. Spyware Blaster, which prevents&protects instead of kills.

Make sure you run an anti-virus as well.

edit: er, and my post was to the topic-starter. I don't understand what collegewannabe is saying.

Microsoft has released the beta version of it's anti spyware software - it's availabe for free to download from the microsoft website. It seems to work pretty well. Also, definitely use Mozilla - it's far better than IE.

haha! microsoft thinks it can fix this spyware problem even though they were the f***wits that practically caused it
