Squash

Anyone here have experience with Squash at the intercollegiate level? Also, what are some schools where they offer Squash but say do not recruit every player on there roster? So in other words, have tr outs or walk ons

NESCAC schools have squash. Trinity is amazing while some of the others, less so. You can look at last year’s schedule /results at any one of them on the team page (as well as bios of players on the roster) to get a sense of what kind of programs they have.

thanks! And yes, Trinity is fantastic. I believe they do recruit however.

Centennial Conf and North Coast Athletic Conference (Ohio schools mostly), also have squash so schools like Haverford, Dickinson, Kenyon, Denison. Liberty League as well – Vassar, Bard. Squash is not under the auspices of the NCAA, so the D1/D3 distinction is not meaningful. This year’s Potter Cup (the national championship) bracket in included Trinity and St Lawrence as well as Harvard and Yale. In the next level down, Dartmouth, Navy, Franklin & Marshall and Bates were competing. In the lowest division, there was Notre Dame and UNC competing against Sewanee. Check out the teams’ results and rosters of players to and see how players’ rankings as high school players match yours, and email coach (copy assistant coach) to ask about tryouts.

thanks for your answer! Where can I go to see the player rankings and their bios?

Usually the team’s webpage, nestled under the athletics department. Most schools list the rostered players, and some, but not all, include little mini bios about their hight school sports accolades. If they just have player names, no bio, then google the names with squash, and see what kind of articles you pull up about their tournament/rankings info.

If you have a list of schools you are most interested in, research those squash programs and, if you are in the ballpark in terms of skill level, go ahead and email the coach.

Thanks!

Anyone here that has played Squash?

Not personally, but several relatives played top collegiate squash so I’ve grown up around the sport.

that’s cool! I like the general atmosphere I sense from watching videos on YT

Almost all the american schools that have a varsity squash program will accept walk-ons. Even places like Princeton and Trinity. The recruiting support varies depending on what league the school is in (ivy, nescac, etc). There are also schools with no coach, but have a club level team that plays.

If you want to get a sense of the schools that offer squash as a sport, checkout the College Squash Association. You can find rankings, etc
