squirrels?

i heard the squirrels at vanderbilt are crazy. what's the deal w/ that?

(threads don't always have to be serious)

this seems pretty serious to me my good man.

especially in light of recent events in the world (e.g. http://edition.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/europe/06/13/germany.animals.ap/index.html).

haha holy crap. that's awesome.

there's a lot of them, but they don't hurt you. Unless you throw garbage into a trash can. They hide in these cans and whenever you throw something away, they jump out at you. seriously.

that's hilarious. a girl friend told me she had one come up and sit on the bench w/in arms reach of her. bold little suckers.
she didn't say anything about the trashcan thing though.

yeah, that actually happened to me. squirrels aren't friendly here. I've been to UT austin and those squirrels are bold. They will come up to you and beg for food.

I like the squirrels/chipmunks on campus --- its adds to the woodsy feel. The trashcan thing is definitely true though.

o man there was this one that would sit and wait for me in the trash can by Kissam and leap out right as I walked by... I'm terrified for next year since my walk to my Peabody dorm is lined with trash cans. There's also this really random squirrel by Rand that has no hair on its tail. The thing is freaky lookin. As much as I hate them, it's pretty entertaining to watch them try and drag pizza slices up trees.

hahaha i really wanna go to vandy now. just to see this squirrels. i'm very easily amused by stuff like that.
you should have found a different route to avoid the trashcans. or just run really fast past the trash cans.
do a lot of squirrels end up as road kill out there? that would be really sad

yeah, that squirrel by rand definitely got in a fight or something.

i would imagine that few squirrels end up as roadkill. keep in mind that while vandy is in the middle of nashville, the campus is pretty much isolated from the city with few roads. if anything i think some of the nashville squirrels would run across the streets outside the campus towards the national arboretum, as opposed to away from the sumptuous acorns towards...buildings?

mmm...squirrel meat. that's good eatin'.

o_O, they don't bite or scratch you or anything, right?

i haven't heard of any squirrels being agressive. the word fear just doesn't exist in their vocabulary.

I was just talking to a friend of mine yesterday about this! She works in the ER checking in patients and just saw a girl a few days ago who PICKED UP a squirrel (how can you even do that?!?!) and it bit her. This wasn't at Vandy though...
Mal :)

I was looking at my sons school of engineering brochure yesterday. In there was a piece about where all the students come from, student to teacher ratios and in the middle of all these list, it had a squirrels to student ratio 3 to 1. I about busted a gut laughing.

3:1 squirrel to student? that's gotta be about 30,000 squirrels! good lord.
i'm gonna need a fact check on that one. maybe a squirrel census of some sort.
but people i hope you're paying attention to this thread. avoid trash cans filled w/ garbage, there are 30,000 squirrels on the vanderbilt campus and for god's sake don't pick up the squirrels. they bite.

the squirrels, people! never forget the squirrels!
