Has anyone been notified about SSA decisions? D applied as a DA to SPEA. Was told last month by SPEA staff that she should have news on decision around mid to late Feb. This wasn't a hard deadline, of course. And they didn't clarify how we would receive the news. Any insight from current or past SSA applicants? Do you receive notification regardless of decision? How do you receive news? (Email or snail mail?) Thanks!

It seems like the SSA notification dates and methods vary widely. Maybe someone who knows specifically about the SPEA SSA will jump in. My daughter applied for two SSA’s - Kelley Scholars and Hutton Honors. For Kelley, she received an email back in January saying she was not selected as a finalist (finalists for Kelley Scholars go through an on-campus interview process). For Hutton Honors, we found out accidentally by poking around on OneStart that she got a scholarship. A few days later she got a letter in the mail. If you want to have your daughter check OneStart, have her follow these steps:
- Click “Go to Student Center” on the main page.
- Click Account Inquiry under Finances
- Click on the Anticipated Financial Aid tab
This is where my daughter’s HH scholarship showed up, a few days before she got the letter.
Good luck!

Thanks stbemptynest…she checked one start yesterday, and there was nothing listed. We’ll keep checking! Hopefully she will be notified even if she doesn’t receive the scholarship, so she’s not left wondering. I remember reading a while back in some of the SPEA SSA literature that scholarships are awarded in March. But again, nothing definite. Maybe the administrator was hopeful earlier that they would be able to complete decisions by end of February, but ended up needing more time. Oh well!

Got a letter this weekend saying I was getting a scholarship from the Honors College. Was also posted on OneStart

Just re-read the actual SSA app and it says notification (from SPEA) is by early March via email. I guess we should hear very soon, one way or the other.

In case anyone out there is wondering, I did call IU Office of Scholarships and was told that many of the schools just started notifying their SSA applicants in the past day or two…they will continue to send notifications over the next couple of weeks. The woman I spoke to was unsure if notifications went out to every applicant or just those that receive the awards. Recommended I check with specific school. So, call this office as a good source for general inquiries on SSA (if you don’t want to pester the actual schools!).

We got the Hutton letter explaining how competitive it was this year, probably every year… waiting on Kelley. Website says notification before April 1.

My daughter received her HHSP award today. No official notification from the school but it appeared on her Onestart financial aid info today.

I’ve heard back about a Hutton Honors Scholarship and the IU STARS program, but I’m hoping to hear back about the Cox Research Program!

Congrats everyone. Still waiting to hear on the SPEA DA. As scholarship office said they are sending out notifications over the next two weeks, we are not discouraged yet! Wonder why it takes so long to notify…(actual notification process, not the review and selection process). Maybe because they need to update info in OneStart?
