Hi everyone! I got my SSAT Scores yesterday and Would Like to know my chances of getting into The Williston Northhampton School, Deerfield (It's my reach I am not expecting to attend), Pomfret School, Lawrence Academy (not lawerenceville), & Northfield Mount Hermon. I got a 55th percentile overall. Here are the individual scores:

Verbal 650 44th percentile

Math 692 49th Percentile

Reading 686 73rd Percentile

Total 2028 55th percentile

I am applying for entry as a 9th Grader

My grades for the first quarter of eight grade are as follows

English 92

Extended Algebra 77

World History 85

Physical Science 83

I did 300 hours of community service over the summer

and I am a prominent french horn player.

I do not do any sports

I should have Good reccomendations

Could anyone please tell me my chances of getting in with these stastics.

(I am a white Jewish Boy if thats of any help)

I suggest you really try to retake the SSAT. Try to get to at least the 70-80 percents. You should also try to boost your grade in all your subjects. Do some more EC’s. If you’re a good French horn player, show them. Have you made Honor Band before? Any awards? Right now you have a really small chance of getting in.

Thanks any advice for retaking to get in the 80th+ percentile?

Use princeton review and Kaplan as a study guide

Don’t freak out about your scores. The only school that wont fit is Deerfield. Trust me when I say I know kids that have low scores and got into BS. Your transcripts and essays should be great to balance it all out. Lots of kids just don’t test well. Add a school w/ rolling admission for safety. Good luck.

Thanks. I was really worried. Will one C hurt my chances? and Can schools see your original ssat if you retook it

yes, a C will hurt your chances.

schools can see your original ssat if you sent it already, but if you retake and improve, that’s a good thing

So basically I do not have a very good chance of being accepted?

You can get into some of those schools. Make sure you get a great recommendation from your French horn/ music teacher. There are lots of kids that simply cant do so well on the tests either from lack of education from previous school or bad testers. You will have to show in your apps that you are a good student ect.
I know a girl who got a much lower score than yours and got into Cheshire, which is not a bad school. You have to believe in yourself in order for the AO to believe in you. Go for it!

Well, it looks like your verbal needs the most work, and I needed the most work on that section when I took it for the first time too.

So what I did, is I did TONS of exercises for both the analogies and vocab. For the analogies, I had three books, and I did ALL of the problems. (Which is a lot… >_<) And for the vocab, I used a SAT vocab word book, and read through it, a few pages a day.

And all that work was worth it, cause I got a 97 percentile on verbal. ;P

So, I’m pretty much saying that do ALL of the exercises you can get your hands on. It might seem pointless when your doing them, but if you do enough, when you take the SSAT again, you’ll feel like the Verbal section is a piece of cake.

Good luck! (=
