Hi All,
I just received my SSAT score with 90% (Math 99%, V 84%, R 69%). I’m debating whether to take another SSAT exam or not.
What advice, if any, do you offer?
Thanks!!

The average score for both Exeter and Andover is 94th percentile. I think if you were to take it again just study for reading because your verbal and math are pretty good. Other than that your score is in the range of those schools but your reading score might be a red flag.
I am sorry to say I think the 69% is problematic for those schools. 90% overall is a solid score so it really depends is schools dig down and look at all the individual percentages. AOs seem to waiver on how much they do this.
You do need to take the test again. Unless you have other schools you are applying to that you love. There’s a lot of variation in the tests and with some work you may be able to substantially increase your score.
@southernboyal34 Can you point to the source where you found the data point regarding Exeter and Andover’s average percentile scores?
Depends upon your other qualities, talents, geographic location & URM status as to whether or not you should retake the SSAT.
In short, not enough information about you has been shared.
P.S. The information contained in the link cited in post #4 above may be outdated. The press release was in April of 2013. Also, some info. seems incorrect such as stating that Choate Rosemary Hall “required” an SSAT score of 85.
Also, referring to itself as “the official ranking” raises credibility issues. Nothing “official” about this ranking–just the author’s, or authors’, opinion.
In support of @Publisher 's point: That same company has a different ranking based on the same outdated data from 2013: [the link was not allowed] Just shows how arbitrary these rankings are.
The company is nothing but a money-making machine: “So What SSAT Exam Score Do You Need to Get Accepted to Boarding/Prep School? Well, if you’re fortunate enough to purchase our boarding school rankings list, we tell you the exact score you need to gain admission to all of the top 25 boarding schools in America.”
That’s an actual quote from their website. You’re asked to pay $349 for their BS ranking list. SMH.
Agree with @GoatMama’s assessment. Also: That data could well be made up. It isn’t from an official source at the schools.
In any event, those are AVERAGES. That means there most certainly are kids with lower scores, though they are likely outstanding in other areas. These are averages, NOT cut-offs.
