SSAT Scores... Should I retake?

I just got my scores back for the SSATS. I am a straight A student and I assume I will be getting great recommendations, but my scores didn't really measure up. Should I retake them in January?

I got:
Math - 98th percentile
Reading - 78th percentile
Verbal - 90th percentile

Well it depends…what exactly are your scores for each category?
Also are you a junior or senior? If you’re a senior this may be past deadlines.
I think you did exceptionally well on math, pretty good on verbal, and alright on reading. Just for the sake of improving on reading, which can earn you a couple extra points, I would retake the SAT. To increase your reading score, I would practice the words on the Princeton Review’s Hit Parade vocab list and do timed passages.
Good luck!

Hi-- Sorry, I didn’t make this very clear. I’m in 8th grade applying for 9th grade to a few rigorous high schools. I forgot to mention, I got 94th percentile over all. My “raw scores” were a 791 on math, 695 on reading, and 731 on verbal. Thanks for the advice.

This is not a particularly good place to post this question. The forum is for high school students applying to colleges. There is a prep school admissions forum on CC. Post the question there.

I’m not quite sure if you should retake it, but I can give you an insight on how well students from my school district did on the SSATs.

Most of my friends were scoring in the 2300+ range as well as one person who got ~ 2390. I personally got ~ 2350 (800 math 790 reading and ~760 for verbal)(a strange thing i noted was that I got a 790 on reading when it said that I didn’t get anything wrong in that section)

One of my friends who got a 2360 (which was 99th percentile) was rejected from Philips and Philips Exeter, despite his extremely impressive ECs in Math. I’m not sure why they rejected him. Maybe it was due to lack of essay writing skills? I’m not too sure, but it will always remain a mystery.

If you’re aiming for top top boarding schools, then I would definitely say retake it. Your reading could use some improvement.
