SSAT scores

Does Kaplan have a good vocab list?

Kaplan's SSAT study book on vocab wasn't that helpful. I guess only about 3 popped up out of all in all the verbal including synonyms.

But, there's this vocab SAT book Kaplan made with 500 words, I was only on the d's, but it was pretty helpful overall. (I was only on the d's on the beginner's section too)

Didn't you take the SSAT already?

^ This fall, trying to get an early start. I really want to get excepted into Deerfield and Exeter. I think has the SSAT's as one think that sets you and other applicants equal. But I know there are a lot of other factors. But just in case. :-)

mickmouse - good point haha, but of course, after all, this is the interweb where you can do and say w/e you want.

My practice test came out as a 96th percentile but my real one dropped to 90. I think if you call SSAT they'll give you two tests (the same ones I took), not sure if you can find these in any particular book.

Surprisingly, the section I was most confident with, verbal, wasn't even that good (80th percentile) but Reading, the section which I almost always got questions wrong on exercises and practice tests, came out to be a 91...

Kaplan's word bank is really handy, since I was also pretty confident on the 20 words I got right, but not on the other ten.

I was hoping my scores were good enough to get into some of these schools: Andover, Exeter, St. Paul’s, Hotchkiss, Thacher, and Lawrenceville. I did pretty well on the verbal and reading, but horribly on the math. I’m a ninth grade girl applying for tenth grade. Here are my scores:

Verbal:
SSAT Score: 752
Personal Score Range: 731-773
SSAT Percentile: 87
Estimated National Percentile: 96

Math: (Here’s where I wish I did better)
SSAT Score: 665
Personal Score Range: 644-686
SSAT Percentile: 35
National Percentile: 88

Reading:
SSAT Score: 713
Personal Score Range: 692-734
SSAT Percentile: 79
National Percentile: 95

Total Score: 2,130
Total Percentile: 69

I don’t know what to think… Should I retake it? I’m scared…

You’re fine.

I know it’s a little late, but I had a different way for studying for words.
I would take each chunk from the study book, and try to use those words in conversation. I’d write them on my arm, and then constantly tried to use them in the appropriate context. It’s one thing to memorize a word, but once you start using it you will most definitely remember it.
Hope it helps!

First time I took the SSAT’s I studied quite a bit and got 2343 (99th Percentile) The second time (this year) I didn’t study at all and got 2307 (97th percentile) studying helps!
