SSAT Verbal and Reading

Hey guys! I just had a question on if I should be studying root words or words. My test is in 34 days and I have been studying word lists this whole time. Should I switch to root words? Also, how did you guys get past articles on the reading section that did not appeal to you? I do very well on topics that I am interested in, but I find myself not being able to concentrate and answer the question efficiently while reading things that do not interest me. Thank you for your help!

Hi!
For optimal results, you should study both roots and word lists. You should keep studying your word lists, but studying some roots will help also.
As for the reading section, you have to force yourself to read the passage. You can try to “fake” being interested and make connections from the text or ask questions to yourself. You can also try to take notes so you don’t always need to painfully go back into the text to find the answer to questions.

Good luck on your test!

Hope this helped,

Hey thanks man but how does one “fake being interested” I tried to tell myself I’m interested but my mind drifts off to other things and I can’t fully concentrate on it.

I suffered from that problem too, but the only way I found to go around it is just to practice a lot with those articles. Sorry that I can’t give you a better answer!
