SSAT?

Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System, so yes.

I have friends who take MCAS. One friend calls it the Massachusetts Child Abuse System. :-/

Being from MA–which is overrepresented in NE boarding schools–will hurt your chances. Good luck.

Massachusetts Child Abuse System… That is great.

Honestly, I think you should focus more on being well rounded than being an angular applicant, especially if soccer doesn’t work out.

See there’s the jack of all trades king of none vs. the king of one.

Have a hook.

@mrnephew I was a well rounded applicant and everything turned out just fine for me so…

And there’s multiple more with one great EC and grades and that turned out just fine for them so…

Let me just say what I said again so you can fully understand:

Honestly, I think you should focus more on being well rounded than being an angular applicant, especially if soccer doesn’t work out.

-While OP should focus on soccer, he/she should try to diversify their resumé. If the OP is not successful in soccer, they will still be able to say that they are interested in the arts, academics, athletics, etc. and that they are involved in activities pertaining to all of these subjects.

@needtoboard, did you get into Andover? What do you mean by well- rounded as well? Sorry what does OP stand for?

I can’t answer most of those questions, but OP is ‘original poster.’

Thanks. I just didn’t understand what they meant by diversify.

@needtoboard There’s no doubt that you are an outstanding applicant, demonstrated by your acceptances, but saying you didn’t have a hook spreads false hope. On your stats post, you wrote that you’re an underrepresented minority from an underrepresented area and a legacy at Exeter. The fact that your family can afford tuition shows that your income is above the OP’s $40,000.

I don’t mean to make you feel badly, not at all. As someone whose heart has been broken in this process twice, I know that a year ago I would’ve liked to know how small my chances really were.

To the OP: go for it, and good luck. If boarding school is your dream, I truly hope it becomes a reality.

Thanks

Do I have any hooks?

Nothing that ‘pops’.

I do speak another language. What exactly is a hook?

While commendable, not a hook,

Yes but what is one.

That’s not a hook. It’s impressive, but it’s not going to catch the attention of AO’s and turn their heads.
