Again, it’s something that’ll turn an AO’s head and make them be like, “Wow.”

Under-represented minority, recruited athlete, world-class cellist.

World class anything, almost.

@stargirl3, I completely understand, but I just wanted the OP to know that “hookless” applicants do get accepted, while using myself as an example probably wasn’t the best idea :). I did not apply to Andover :)

A “development case” is a hook, e.g., parents ready to donate a $60 million new science bldg.

I am a minority. My parents immigrated from Bangladesh in 2000.

Asian=Over-represented minority. Not a hook.

Anti-hook, to be honest.

Is this a hook?

Good at math, (have many math competition awards), great violinist (violin competition awards, played in the United Nations, plan on sending a video), and good swimmer (USA Swimmer, silver times).

I need FA though, so do you think this is enough or should I work on adding stuff?

Plus I’m Asian. So I have 2 anti hooks against me. Do you think I have enough to combat my 2 antihooks?

No idea. My friend was a USA swimmer and he didn’t get in with straight A’s and financial aid.

And then there are some people without a hook that got in.

This process is very very very capricious.

That hurts my feelings.

What hurts your feelings?

What other schools should I apply for? Eg Hotchkiss, BU Academy, Lawrenceville, ST Marks, etc?

Are you sure you want to be asking that question?

Do some research on www.boardingschoolreview.com and ask yourself what kind of school you want to be in.

Big? Small? Competitive? Formal Dress? Casual?
We the strangers of CC can’t give you an accurate list of schools. Only you and your parents can.

Great tip.

I apologize for all the questions, but say I do get accepted into a school, does this mean that I can stay for the following years, or would I apply again?

You do not reapply every year.

The process is very much like applying to college. Once you’re in, you’re in. However, many schools have you apply again for financial aid each year, but your award should remain the same if your economic situation does.

I have a quick question that goes back to the conversation on hooks, sorry. First, I thought the over-represented Asian minorities were primarily from China, India, and South Korea…wouldn’t being from Bangladesh at least not be an anti-hook?
