My point too. For a few years Bangladesh remained the poorest country in the world. Even today it is stuck in deep poverty, and isn’t even close to being a developed country.

IMO, a full-pay applicant from Bangladesh would not be an anti-hook, as the BS could list another country in its lookbook. An applicant applying from the US who is of Bangladeshi descent is an ORM and thus, anti-hook.

But the FA…

I said FP @mrnephew, or are you referring to something else?

He means the financial aid is an anti-hook.

What else can I do, like volunteering, that would help?

You haven’t taken the SSAT, so nobody here can really give you suggestions. Your stats look solid as is, but the FA piece is a gigantic hurdle.

That’s what I meant, sorry.

The FA piece is not insurmountable. Our DS was accepted to a HADES and has not found a cure for cancer or competed in the Olympics or won the Intel competition. We are caucasian and live in a large region. Don’t get too worked up over hooks and anti hooks. Research the schools and visit to get a sense of the best fit and have your application be convincing about why it is a good fit-what you can contribute and what you can benefit from being there. Being the child of Bangladeshi immigrants will not work against you. Don’t add activities to your plate just to look good. Pursue your passions to the best of your abilities and be who you really are.

Agree.

While the FA is not insurmountable, it is going to be a lot tougher.

sorry to bring this up again, but do you think that being an ORM who was born outside of the US and later moved here would count as an anti-hook, hook, or neither? Because i was born in what i believe is an over represented Asian country (not China), but is an ORM just somebody of a certain race that is over represented, but born in the US; or are u still an ORM if you were actually born in a different country, but live in the US?

Definitely not a hook. Maybe an anti-hook, depending on what country you’re from.

I got in the 71st percentile on the SSAT
