I got to a total score of 1755 on my ssat’s I don’t know if this is good. I am applying to 9th grade. I got a 593 on quantitive, a 576 on verbal, and a 584 on reading. I am really scared. I get A’s and B+ on my report cards almost all straight A’s and I turned that to the school I’m applying to as well as I sent 5 high recommendations to the school that I’m applying to. I hope the ssats won’t intereact or effect my financial needs and acceptance for this school. I get excellent grades but have a not and kinda decent score on the ssat’s. Is this good enough by the way I took the upper level ssat test.
What is your overall percentile % score ?
According to the SSAT score report, the average for eighth graders taking the test is 1997. It depends on the schools you’re applying to; for some, your score is less of an issue than it may be for others. For a school like Exeter, it is good to know that their median score is 94th percentile (somewhere in the low 2000s, I believe) so your chances may be lesser at schools like that.
Not all people are great test takers, and the admissions officers know that. Your score will be considered as one part of your application, it is not the end all be all, so try not to dwell on it. Good luck!
1755 is less than 12th percentile score. It is indeed very low. You should have retaken the test to try to raise your score. Here is an approximate conversion of total scaled scores to percentile rank:

2000 - 54
2020 - 58
2040 - 64
2060 - 66
2080 - 71

2120 - 80
2140 - 84
2160 - 85

2200 - 91
2220 - 93
2240 - 95
2260 - 96
2280 - 97
2300 - 98
2320 - 99

Thanks. GoatMama, for the above conversion chart. I haven’t seen this chart before in my search to make better sense of SSAT scores. Is this something you came up with yourself or is this information generally known? Would this work when super scoring the results of two different exam dates?
No, I didn’t come up with it myself. SSAT conversion charts are quite readily available. See for example http://mytutor.com/ssat-scoring-scaled-scores-vs-percentiles/. That said, keep in mind this is only a guide. Exact scores and percentile equivalents may differ slightly between seatings.
1755 please tell this score is okay, please
if you look at the above chart from @GoatMama, you can see that 1755 is not a very high score. If you want to improve it, the Princeton review may help, as will the review things on the SSAT website. Good luck
@stephy_04 You should be proud of all the effort you have put into this process regardless of the results on M10. Everyone has a chance to get in, and not all with 99 percentile scores get in. It just depends on whether you have what they are looking for that particular year.
Perhaps they really liked some aspect of you – an EC, your essays, whatever. Wouldn’t you rather have a nice person (which you sound like) as a classmate rather than a know-it-all who thinks they deserve more than anyone else? I know if I were young enough to go to BS, I would.
I hope you have started thinking of options if you do not get into BS this year. Is your local high school a good option for one more year? Perhaps you could go there and try again next year. They seem to like repeat applicants. And buy that SSAT practice online when you register for the test. And do it starting in August – I think that is when you can register for the SSAT. Take the November or Dec SSAT so you have plenty of time to study, but enough time to retake if you need to.
I should tell you an inspiring story I heard last year of a boy who moved to the NE. His entire family moved to a small town so he could play a club sport and then he got a concussion – his doctor said no more of that sport. He disliked his school and he couldn’t play his sport, so he studied hard for the SSAT because he wanted to get out of there. He did well enough to be accepted into a GLADCHEMMS school on a full sports scholarship (he could still run) and he graduated into HYPS also on a full ride to play another popular sport which he tried at BS after he got approval from his doc.
So you never know what good things could come your way if you just hang in there and continue to pursue your dream.
Hope this helps!
@stephy_04 : Your SSAT scores are low. The good news is that there is lots of room for improvement, and that you can have the best private tutor for free. Use Khan Academy. Spend one hour per day every day on this website. Go at your own pace. You will learn and you will understand. Do this for a year & your SSAT scores will soar.
There are also vocabulary building lists available for free on the internet. Just Goggle SSAT vocabulary words.
This may not be the right time for you to switch schools, but next year you will have plenty of choices if you follow my advice.
Don’t fret about your SSAT score! There are applicants with 99’s that get WL or rejected, and applicants with SSAT scores like yours that get accepted! Remember, standardized testing measures your test taking ability on how well you remember everything you studied on that early Saturday morning. Remember, numbers don’t define you! Your personality, traits, and actions define you. Good luck!
@AllSmiles2: I think that most schools like to see a much higher SSAT score–at least a score in the 40% range.
Thanks @AllSmiles2 you really made me have more confidence. Although I was feeling sad beacuse people say this was a low score. I am only 14 and entering highschool next year. I just wanted someone to tell me atleast a good thing and you really did that thans so mch. I will try not to be sad and think of all the positive things you have said to me thanks so much.
I have straight A’s and high reccomendations good grades and passion for the school.
What school did you apply to?
Straight A’s vary by school, in some schools A’s are far easier than others. The schools may use your SSAT to see how easy/hard it is to achieve certain grades. However, if you are in fact very smart and this is an anomaly, or perhaps you don’t test well, I’m sure more practise would easily get you a higher score, and I hope you aren’t discouraged!!
Thanks I just hope I can do well with my A’s, reccomendations, and passion. I am not so discouraged just a little nervous but that’s okay. Thanks, @altablue!
