**St Andrews in Scotland Acceptance/Rejection Class of 2021**

Applied for IR December 6th and got my unconditional offer January 28th. About a week later, I received an official letter and an information packet in the mail. Good luck guys!

wolfmoon88, yes my daughter (US student) also received an offer for Sustainable Development. Congrats!

I submitted my application early December and heard back mid-February with an unconditional offer for Social Anthropology. I hope this helps. Sure it will work out.

@cbredear Congratulations to your daughter as well

That’s really cool! Is St Andrews her first choice?

@wolfmoon88 – it is pretty high up on her list but she is waiting to hear from some other US schools before she decides. Her brother just graduated from St. A’s in 2016 (IR and Modern History) so not sure if that helps (since she knows it) or hurts (since she also wants to forge her own trails). How about you?

@cbredear That’s good, it’s honestly great to have good choices because the college process is so unpredictable at times. And for the UK, the deadline to decide is early June so she still has a lot of time to think about it. (although she would probably have to make a decision by May 1st because of US university deadlines?)

I am most likely firming St Andrews and will attend if I make the grades. It wasn’t my first choice but I like it the best out of all my options right now and I am pretty excited about studying abroad!

has anyone applied for master of arts (Honors) in classics and english??

Anyone going to any of the US admitted student events?

We are- this Saturday in Pasadena 2-4pm, I believe.

The LA area event is Saturday 3-5:30 at Harvard-Westlake. Not aware of one in Pasadena?

My daughter was sent an email that has a link to the Edi web site to register. The session is for offer holders and applicants. Definitely is 2-4 in Pasadena.

Vicikisocal- so odd- wonder if there is a mix up?

@KaffeineKitty This is the St Andrews thread. When I asked if anyone was going to the admitted student events I thought it was obvious I was talking about St. Andrews! So we’re both mixed up.

Oops- sorry - I have Edinburgh on my brain. My D is still waiting to hear from St A so I guess that is why we didn’t get any info from them about meeting tomorrow -

Is it worth applying now?

Tidbits from St. Andrews past student/current parent panel as passed on by the kid and her dad:

One panelist graduated in 2014 and has been accepted at Harvard Law and nearly every other top 10 law.

3.5% discount if you pay all 4 years tuition upfront. Parents on panel talked about ways of funding and moving money over there. International director said parents from “certain countries” just show up with 100K in cash.

Bring at least 3 formal/cocktail dresses and boys need a tux. Formals are ubiquitous.

Highest engagement rate in the UK.

Very, very unstructured. You must take responsibility for yourself. If you never come to class, ever, noone will care. (Students admitted they were not in science subjects and those are different)

Yes, you can drink at 18. Yes, everyone drinks. The communal kitchens in most dorms are just one long party every Saturday night.

There are three pubs in the Student Union that take student ID’s, all pubs in town require a passport or british resident id. US Driver’s license will not be accepted.

Most students work 15-20 hours a week and this is very doable with the schedule. There’s no work study requirement, all on campus jobs are available to everyone. They said keep your UK earnings in UK bank account, use those to pay for daily/social expenses.

They will be getting a rock wall in the fall. Apparently too many US parents/students must have asked where it was on the tours.

I would add that there’s a hard maximum of 20 hours international students are allowed to work per week in term time as a condition of getting a student visa.
