That’s interesting, they didn’t ask me for supporting material (and I’m homeschooled, so I would have been the most likely to “fudge” things!).
Well a transcript and school profile wouldn’t be much use for a homeschooler!
That’s true, @VickiSoCal. I could have sent a transcript from my online AP courses, though.
Also, I’m curious: does anyone know much about St. A’s economics program? I’m accepted to Computer Science and Economics, and while their CS is absolutely amazing I’ve heard less great things about their Econ department.
What have you heard? The league tables have them 6th, below Cambridge, Oxford, Warwick, UCL and LSE in economics.
Have you visited and met with department reps?
@VickiSoCal What your daughter may not understand is that in UK universities, you never get above an 80%. So they entire scale is pushed down. A 60% may appear low by American standards, but it isn’t an American 60%.
She’s figuring that out. Last US decision is tomorrow then it’s decision time for us.
" in UK universities, you never get above an 80%". You can get 95% for individual assignments. Maybe not for exams
I still haven’t heard. i applied mid December for Economics.
Has anyone else applied for the International Excellence Scholarship?
The £25k financial aid would really help ha
In case other potential St. A parents are interested, they have posted the information on prepayment:

Accepted student video.
@gleemputte hey I’m interested in applying for classics! I’m wondering if you could share your stats? Thanks so much
@libartscollege my act score was a 29. I also showed lots of demonstrated interest.
Does anyone know if there is a final date they can give you a decision by? I know it is rolling admission, but it has been about 4 months since I submitted my application.
They said March 31 was their goal. I would reach out.
I reached out about 2 weeks and they said they are still going over my application. Figured I would’ve heard by now!
Slightly surprised how popular St Andrews has become, particularly with Americans. When at school( actually a while ago now) lots of people were interested in Edinburgh, partly for the social life I think, but St. Andrews was just too isolated. I suppose Prince William has increased the St Andrews name recognition. Both Edinburgh and St. Andrews do have a pretty good academic reputation though.
But I wouldn’t be put off by the request for formal dresses. In my experience, formal partying in all UK universities is less of a big thing than in the US. Yes, some do have occasional balls and formal dinners, but, apart from the occasional dinner you might want to go to, it’s entirely up to you whether or not you’re interested, and many people are not. But people sometimes get odd ideas from TV programs etc.
I went to 4 years at a US University without donning a formal. So far the kid has not gone to one yet at St. Andrews but I believe she plans to go to her Hall’s ball and possibly one Christmas one.
I think dress up formals are more common in the UK because the students are legal to drink.
