Has anybody heard back about the St. Francis Xavier full-tuition scholarship? I went to Xavier to compete in the scholarship competition two weeks ago and now I’m just wondering if anybody has been notified yet. The wait is agonizing. Xavier is my #1 choice and I don’t know if I can go unless I get this scholarship. Any information would be much appreciated! Thanks!
My D was just accepted will be looking to apply to this full tuition scholarship by the Feb 2018 deadline.
Does Xavier actually offer a full tuition scholarship?
Apparently they do but the scholarship is offered to only 10 incoming freshmen.

Not that we have any expectations - but when are St Francis finalists notified? Or have they already?
Our daughter heard from her admissions counselor that everyone would hear one way or another this past week, but she hasn’t heard anything. Apparently at an XU prospective student event last night they said invitations would come out “in the next day or two.” Not sure if that means tomorrow (Saturday) as day 2 or Monday. We are anxiously waiting, too. The interview date (confirmed with admissions counselor) is 3/17 so that’s rapidly approaching. Good luck to you!
@dadof4wi from what I seem to recall from the postings of parents of past recipients - many/most had years of foreign language experience in addition to lofty stats and solid ECs. Good luck!
Notifications came out this morning in each student’s Road to Xavier Account. Best of luck to everyone.
Did your student receive a notification?
Does anyone know approximately how many finalists there are? Or what the scholarship competition entails? Thanks.
My D got the invitation as well. When she applied it mentioned they’d come to the finalists’ high school to do the interviewing. But now it looks like they want her to come to campus.
I just re-read the scholarship language and see I made an unhealthy assumption.
“Typical recipients of the St. Francis Xavier scholarship rank in the top 5 percent of their high school class with a GPA of at least a 3.75 and have a minimum SAT of 1360 (ACT of 31). Selected students will be interviewed on campus in the spring of the student’s senior year.”
I took “on campus” in that context to me the students’ school. We already have flights booked for our tour a few days after the requested interview date. So we may not be able to participate in the interview process. Good luck to all those selected.
@Banker1 You need to contact Xavier (if you haven’t already) and explain the situation, especially if you already have a trip planned from far away.
I can’t imagine they wouldn’t give you a day or two’s leeway on scheduling things.
They want to interview candidates at XU 3/17 and we don’t arrive until a few days later. My D is tasked with finding out about any reasonable alternatives.
If anyone wants to know about this scholarship - all candidates have to show up on the interview date for group activities so there are no alternatives. After having visited similar sized schools recently (Gonzaga, Seattle U, Portland) my D now thinks she will prefer a larger school. At any rate there are still many unknowns in her selection process (will Ohio State offer her Honors and does that mean direct entry, will SDSU accept her for nursing). She is opting to not change her existing plans.
Xavier admissions just called D to invite her to Skype in Sat for interview for St Francis consideration. We’re glad she was offered this alternative so she wouldn’t have to alter her plans of visiting Xavier and some other schools in a few days. Sat happens to be the Open House event for her local state school but she will find a way to participate in both.
Have any finalists heard back regarding this scholarship?
Banker1, I can’t help on that question, I’m afraid, but my daughter is admitted and we’ve applied to the Honors program. I know that’s not the same as the St. Francis Xavier Scholarship, though. I just wondered how much you know about Xavier in general. I’m originally from the UK and don’t know too much about it, and I was asking earlier if anyone could shed any light on the school. We’re visiting next weekend for the admitted students day so will learn more there, but any further info offered would be welcomed.
My D is an admitted Nursing student. She just visited it and liked the campus. She sent me some interesting photos she took on campus such as of a Pizza ATM. This is a kiosk where you customize your order and out pops your slice. The campus is spacious (175 acres) for only 4500 or so undergrads. It’s minutes from another campus she is also admitted - U of Cincinnati which she also liked. She enjoyed the city itself and has added X to her top schools. She’s hopeful the nursing facilities are completed F2019 and that the new tech infuses some energy and even higher ratings into that program. Naturally receiving the St. Francis honors could be the deciding factor so I was wondering if any other finalist had heard back already.
Hello @smookypie100, Xavier is fairly new to us as well, although my father actually went there back in the '40s. My son and I have visited twice now (and we’re from Florida), and I’ve been very impressed by the campus, the administration, the admissions outreach, and the overall quality of the school. Here in the states, Jesuit colleges are generally well regarded for their devotion to the liberal arts tradition, attention to each student’s intellectual, moral and spiritual growth, and the value placed on social responsibility. My son is still making up his mind, but I hope he chooses Xavier.
