st georges

im currently on the waiting list for st georges, and was wondering if anyone here has gone there, or know someone whos gone there. anyone apply this year to st georges?

I know a few girls at my school that applied. One of girl's parents (both of them) teach there, so it is an automatic that she is accepted. Then there were three other girls that applied from my class. One is our current school's headmaster's daughter and she did not get accepted. The other two are very competitive for acceptances but I won't know until we go back to school on the 27th of who (or both) were accepted or not. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Maybe you mean St. Jorge's?

I had a friend go there. She liked it OK, but she said she wished she never transferred out of the school she was at beforehand. She was able to take classes and play sports that most schools don't offer, though.

I also know a few older kids who range from 10th - 12th graders there. I know there is A LOT of homework and the day students I know wish they had chosen to board. Being a day student at St. George's means you still don't eat dinner with your family nor do you get much free time. Good luck to you! It's a fantastic school.

haha im just crossing my fingers ill get in. its my #1 choice. my best friends dad is a big alumni there, and he wrote me a really nice letter. thanks again

I have a child at St. George's who got in off the wait list last year. She absolutely loves it. It was her number one choice and it has been everything she had hoped it would be - wonderful people, great teachers and one of the most beautiful campuses you can imagine! Let them know how much you would like to go - I believe it makes a difference.

thanks..5 minutes after i got my wait list letter i called to confirm i wanted to stay on the list and told them it was my first choice and definitly the place i want to spend the next 4 years of my life, and the lady who answered put a star next to my name. hopefully that will help too.

Do you mean the boarding school St. George's in Newport RI? I know a close friend who is a sophomore there right now. It's a great school

yea thats the school. i love the campus--its soo pretty and in such a nice location, plus the teachers and courses they offer are great. also i was looking for a school where i can sail competitivly, and st georges has one of the best programs in the country. and its only an hour and a half from my house.

does anyone know when the wait list decision letters are mailed? i thought it was april 12 but i cant remember. also does anyone have a guessimate on how many people are on the st georges waiting list?

It is perfectly fine for you to call the admissions office and ask all these questions. They will understand that it will help you and your parents make an informed decision, particularly if you need to put a deposit down on another school by the April deadline. They were extremely helpful to us and openly shared their numbers situation, explaining how the wait-list selection process works (balancing boy/girl etc). If you ask they are likely to give you an honest assessment of your chances of getting off the waitlist. Best of luck to you! I know how frustrating tit is waiting and not knowing what will happen.

i know i just dont want to bother them, they said to be patient and let them do their job in the letter they sent.

hey, I'm a senior at st. george's and my four years were utterly incredible.... I can't offer all that much advice beyond showing them exactly how interested you are, but I was wait listed when I applied and got in so there is definitely hope.
Good Luck!

thank you so much. alot of people have told me being waitlisted is you got in but they dont have room for you yet. any truth to that?

It's all a matter of the admissions commitee having to wait to see how many of the accepted students actually send in their deposits and enroll, and how many end up deciding to go to school B, C or D, depending on how many schools they were accepted to.... once that becomes clear they can begin to draw from the waitlist. So yes, the kids on the waitlist are all kids that they will be happy to have - but they don't want to end up having accepted more kids than they can actually accomodate. Don't forget, there are probably kids who have said they will go to St. George's but are perhaps waiting for a space on the waitlist to open somewhere else - I think there is a lot of action in those two or three days surrounding the deposit deadline date!

Reminding them now how serious you are about taking the place if it is offered to you can only be helpful when the time comes-

yea ive let them know that if i am taken off the waiting list i will most def. go.

prepchick91, make sure you let them know of any new honors, or any other interesting tid bit that may help them want you more. I wish you much luck.

but with all this information i want them to know, do i call or write them a letter?

It doesn't hurt to do both, right? It's best to write a nice letter with all of the updated achievements you've received.
