St. Marks

I know there's been a million threads about it, and to anyone who says "go search it dummy" is probably going to get an iPunch just from me ;)
Well, obviously that was a joke. But yeah, I've searched the threads so I don't think there's anything yet.

It says this year's admission rate was 24% because last year's group was overadmitted because they didn't expect too many people to say yes, and I searched it on google but what BSR said about it was the exact same as Petersons said about the St. Marks in TEXAS, so I'm guessing it's possible BSR made a mistake because it's easy to mistake St. Marks but not "In Texas"

anybody want to confirm the number? I feel like I need another safety and of course the acceptance rate isn't 36 but it's either sms or CA, which has a boarding rate of around 45% and a size of 30 acres approx, which while not too serious, are the little things that make me think sms would be a better choice if they accepted more people (concord is around 30% for boarders)

thanks

I know St. Mark's school(SMS) very well because I am going to that school. I chose SMS over other schools for sveral reasons.

Anyway, yes, Pertersons' data is not correct. It shows St. Mark's school in Texas, whcich is different school and it isn't boarding school.

However, it is true that last year's group was overadmitted beacuse they had record high application last year and they did not expect so many people would say yes.

This year they had a new record high application like most of othjer schools
they accpeted 156 students out of 650+ applications for 76 spots. --> accaptance rate is 24%, and BSR shows the correct data now.

If you have any question about SMS, please feel free to contact me anytime. My parents have a lot of information not only about SMS but also many others schools since they are educators.

hehe yeah erkybk i saw some of your posts when i was looking up st marks && congrats :D

but yeah that acceptance rate is kind of scary seeing as their yield rate is surprisingly low (er unless im using the term wrong as in people who choose to go) even though they're a good school. if the yield rate was high i'd be like oh yeah that's cause everybody chooses to go. but NOO. if the yield was higher the admission rate would be like .000000001 %
thanks for the message i also know someone who's going to sms right now (i believe they're in the one-year program but i could be wrong) and they're supposedly having fun lol

okay, so if the people in your school got accepted to lets say, groton but rejected it for a place like andover, if another person applied for 10th grade the year after, would it be easier or harder to get in? a couple of the schools i like are in that position, and though i'm going to go with them i just want to know if i have to work extra hard on impressing them because they might believe the people are stuck up or something lol

Petersons has St. Marks School. You need to search for it under SAINT Marks. Here is the link: Saint Mark's School- School Overview

According to Petersons, the acceptance rate is 38%

Yes that is correct. That was lat year's aceptance rate. they are over enrolled last year because they did not expect that many students would accept.

This year they accepted low simply becuas ethey cannot accept that many
due to dorm capacity. It is 24% this year. I confirmed this year's acceptance rate with SMS school official. That is what I said in the previous thread.

St. Mark's School - Boarding School Profile

St. Mark's acceptance rate was slightly less than 24% last year. The yield was around 50%. Andover, which has one of the highest yields of all the elite schools (this is a debate in itself) had a yield of just around 75% this year. SMS had a lower yield over the last couple of years, probably, because of construction at the school which put some people off. Yield seems to be climbing steeply, based upon serious over-booking of the school last year. (The construction is now over, and some lingering problems from several headmasters back are now resolved.) St. Mark's went through a tough patch at the end of the nineties. It's now coming back strong, and the acceptance and yield rates reflect this as it climbs back into tier one.

oldprep,

thank for the info. I did not know about the last year's data very well even though I know this year's stat since I am going to that school. I am familiar to the last sentence yopu wrote cause I heard about it from my parents.
How do you know about all those? You can send me email or private message.
I like to know more about it.

Erkybrk, you are going to be happy at St. Mark's. Don't worry. I know that choosing a school can be incredibly difficult. I have a lot of experience with different schools. I am certain that you will be very happy there. Just relax, enjoy your summer, and get ready for next year. It will be a challenge but I am certain that there is no friendlier an environment than St. Mark's. This doesn't mean you wont find it a VERY CHALLENGING year academically. But just relax. It's a great school.

oldprep,

Thank you very much. That is what my parents say. I am very happy that the teachers already know me and they treat me very nicely. I am looking forward to going SMS as soon as possible. Last week I visited again with my parents and watched the rival games vs. Groton. That was awesome!
