St Olaf Class of 2015

I noticed that there has been hardly any talk on the St. Olaf forum recently. I thought that I'd start a thread for anyone who has already been accepted to St. Olaf in the Class of 2015, or anyone who has applied ED 2 or RD and is nervously awaiting a response! Is there anyone here that is going to/hoping to become an Ole?

My daughter is anxiously awaiting to hear, but since she’s RD, she (and I) will be anxious for another couple of months. She’s looking forward to her second visit to St. Olaf at the end of this month when she auditions for a dance scholarship. My mother went to St. Olaf for one year (before transferring) and recently gave my daughter her green freshman beanie that she’d saved. Hopefully that will bring good luck!

Are you waiting to hear ED2 or RD? Do ED2’s find out earlier?

My D applied RD also. From what I’ve read, if they are in line for the Buntrock Scholarship, we could be hearing as soon as February 15th. Let’s hope we don’t have to wait a couple of months!

@snoozn - I applied early decision 2, so I find out around the 15th February! I’m fairly certain the RD applicants usually find out a bit later than that, maybe in March.

If you look back at conversations on February 15-20, 2009, that’s when they begin to find out if they are finalists for the Buntrock Scholarship. Scholars’ Day for Buntrock Scholarship Finalists is March 11-12, 2011, so whether they were ED or RD, some kids will be finding out at that time.
Good luck!

My d applied RD and we are going to visit mid February to get the full winter environment. She isn’t fond of winter but there are many things about St. Olaf’s that makes it seem it would be a great school for her. Now we just have to see what she thinks both about the school and the really cold.

You’ll be hitting it at the coldest possible time - so it will only be nicer next time! I think you’ll still love it - beautiful campus, beautiful buildings and wonderful food! We visited in the fall and D fell in love with it. Great tour guide and interview was fabulous!
I hope you have a wonderful time.

My daughter is a first year student, and she swims (read walks around with wet hair). She has a very warm down coat, wool accessories and Bogs boots. The weather is not a factor for her–she plays intramural broomball, king of the hill on the parking lot snow mounds and then cozies up by the fireplace in her dorm. They roast marshmallows, bake cookies and make it all work! The warm atmosphere created by her fellow students and the staff keeps her happy, along with more sunny days than we get back home.

The weeks between applying and receiving a notification from the college have been passing painfully slowly. I want to know now!

We visited in the summer (on one of the special visit days). It was hot and humid, but our tour guide talked about what it was like in the colder months. My daughter is looking forward to seeing St. Olaf in the winter. Glad to hear some students enjoy the snow (even with wet hair!)

I’m not even going to mention a possible early notification to her. Just going to assume we won’t hear anything until late March.

Snoozn - our D did the dance audition in the fall. It was very relaxed. Contemporary is not really her style, but she enjoyed the experience. The dance faculty are very nice and approachable. Also - having attended St. Olaf, I can tell you that the weather is not a big deal. The campus itself is pretty contained, although I suppose some dorms are farther away than others. St. Olaf is beautiful in every season. Good luck and enjoy your trip!

MirandaBaby, I will pass on your description of the audition to my daughter. She has been pretty nervous about it. She’s been going to high school dance days at our local flagship since she was a freshman (where the younger students do everything except for the audition solo), so she’s not too worried about that one. But she wasn’t sure if it would be a similar atmosphere at St. Olaf.

We’ve both been excited to see the winter-time campus since getting the St. Olaf video Christmas card. She really isn’t concerned about the cold and snow, but whenever she tells anyone about applying there, the first response is “Oh, that’s so cold!”

Best of luck to everyone waiting!

Any other ED 2 applicants nervously awaiting a response sometime within the next few days? Does anyone know whether St Olaf are usually before, or on, their expected date of notification?

Last year they they notified RD applicants a few days before the expected date, by regular mail. I see that you’re international; overseas mail may delay things a bit. Good luck.

Did anyone who applied ED II hear from Olaf? I literally can’t wait. It is so close!

I applied ED II and haven’t head anything yet. I have been told that, as an international, I will be notified by email when the letters are sent out. Based on this, I’m guessing that letters still have to be sent out within the next few days.
Good luck!

Hi guys! I am a new to CC so I hope my first post on CC looks OK :). Well, I am very luckily admitted under ED2 but the the problem is that I have not heard anything about my FA package! It has been more than a week since the result was out. I don’t know whether my patience is limited or not but I am really worried since students getting ED acceptances usually know their aids very early! Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Hi!
Congratulations on the the acceptance!
I believe that you should receive you FA package within the next few days. From my understanding, St. Olaf send FA packages around a week after the decision notification, so I’m sure you’ll hear from them very soon!
If you don’t hear within the week, I’d email admissions to double check that it was sent.

Thanks steve136! I hope your result was good too!
Well, I have received my FA email, not the package and overall, the award meets my family’s needs. However, my award includes a Thompson loan whose rate is 8%! Anyone like me and can you specify this loan, please? I mean, I am afraid that such high rate will make me be deep in debt after my graduation! BTW, I am international student.
