I was wondering if St.Pauls is going to be any easier to get into this year due to their reputation being damaged by the recent rape trial? Because of their bad image in the media are less people going to apply? It is a reach school for me and I am trying to figure out my chances. Any feedback is welcome, thanks.
I wouldn’t count on it. They recently came out with one of the most generous financial aid policies amongst the boarding schools with the goal of making it more affordable to middle income families and that is bound to draw some interest. I would imagine they’ll step up their admissions efforts in some fashion as well. Time will tell, but I’d expect little to no difference.
If only they had a pool… Or, let me correct that. An actual team for the pool they already have. I bet they will have no problem hitting their admission yield this year. People have very short memories.
My guess is people who are looking into St. Paul’s are intelligent enough to check out each incident and make own informed judgement whether the environment is still reasonably safe, rather than to passively accept bad images on media. So I wouldn’t bet on that.
Thanks everyone for the insight @doschicos @MAandMEmom @jwalche
I’ll take “Things That Will Never Happen” for $600, Alex.
@skieurope Don’t be so sure. Things can change in a blink with the right person in charge.
@GnarWhail Are you offering to move to Concord and coach the team:)
@MAandMEmom Now THAT’S something that’s not gonna happen. Those days are long gone.
Schools get swim teams three ways: team first, then pool–most likely; team and pool at the same time–makes sense; pool then team at some point. If you have the pool, the team will happen–St. Paul’s has the club team & at that future ‘some point’ something will change–new person in charge; job for spouse of important, desired new hire; something–and that will be that.
Pomfret’s Corzine Center is about as old as St. Paul’s gym, and Pomfret did not include a pool when they built that facility. Never understood that one. I’m sure they regret it now; the arms race never stops.
The trial situation did not impact the decision for DS2 to apply to SPS but the pool situation did. He just cancelled his interview when he learned SPS does not have a swim team. Now his trying to convince mom to let him add Peddie to his list.
IMHO the incident at St.Pauls will not hurt the application numbers. Let’s face it, that could have happened at ANY prep school and I believe it was an isolated incident. St. Pauls is a phenomenal school and tops on my DD list. It is similar to saying certain schools have drug problems. Probably every school has some students that use drugs and if a student does not want to use drugs they do not have to be friends with those kids.
