I'm planning on going to Iowa State University.

This is their financial aid package for me (which is pretty decent) compared to their total cost of attendance. (Estimation)

full time tution and fees: 6360
Room and Meals: 6956
Books and Supplies: 984
Personal Expenses: 3400
total: 17700

MVP Scholarship: Full tuition
Pell grant & other gov. aid: 1881
Work/Study: 2500 (Not guaranteed)
Subsidized loans: 3500
Additonal Loan options: 4295
total: 17700

I understand that housing and meals isn't set yet which is why the costs are estimated. I have not received any outside scholarship; actually, I've been denied like 3 scholarships.

What I'm wondering is do I have to accept the sub. loan right now (before May 1st)? What about the 4295 amount? I'm still waiting on some scholarships, so I don't want to accept the loans before I know exactly what I have to pay for. Does anyone know when these 'estimations' become 'exact' numbers? Sorry, but my parents are like freaking out...

Since the work/study is not guaranteed, and the 2500 amt is the maxium amt I can make, what does the typical freshman/college student make with this program? I'm going to be real diligent about finding a job, but I'm still scared I won't be able to get this part of my fin. aid. package. Is it typical for students not to be able to get work/study?

And, in your opinion, is this decent aid? The reason why I chose this school over Beloit College is that tuition will be fully covered for all four years whearas Beloit will only give me $30000 all four years. Their tuition is 31310, but (I've checked) it goes up about 1400 every year. That means that my loans will increase a bit more that ISU.

Anyways, thanks for any advice/answers.
